GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 9

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - Cambridge, Mass.)

Ramirez-Tejeda averaged 23.0 points and 13.3 rebounds in a 2-1 week, while shooting 55.4% (31-56 FG) overall. The junior opened the week with a 30-point, 13-rebound double-double in an 80-69 setback against UMass Boston before collecting a monster double-double of 27 points and 20 rebounds in GNAC action against Regis. She concluded the week with 12 points and seven boards in just 18 minutes against Anna Maria. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cheyenne-Mone Smith, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G/F - Wethersfield, Conn.)

Smith averaged 9.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 28.0 minutes per game to lead USJ in a pair of road GNAC games last week. Smith opened the week with 11 points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists on Tuesday night at Colby-Sawyer before going for seven points, eight rebounds and three assists on Saturday at Saint Joseph's of Maine.


WEEK 9 HONOR ROLL
Jill Johnson, Albertus Magnus
 (Sr., G - North Haven, Conn.) - Johnson averaged 18.0 points and 4.7 assist as the Falcons went 2-1 last week in conference play. In a win over Anna Maria, Johnson became the 14th player in program history to exceed 1,000 career points behind a 22-point performance. The senior guard followed up by posting 12 points and six assists in a road loss to SJC before registering 20 points, three rebounds, five assists and four steals in a win over Rivier. 

Amber Wilson, Anna Maria (So., F) - Wilson averaged 15.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in just 25.3 minutes per contest in a 1-2 week, highlighted by a 25-point outburst with eight rebounds in a hard-fought 76-74 win at Rivier. 

Tianna Sugars, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, C - Oxford, Maine) - Sugars registered 19.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in a 3-0 week, while shooting 57.9% (22-38 FG) overall and making 14-of-19 at the FT line. She began the week with 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals in a win over USJ in the first-ever GNAC contest for the Chargers' program, then had 18 points (5-6 FG, 8-12 FT) with eight boards and five assists in a 67-52 road win at JWU. Sugars ended the week with a career-high 29 points (11-19 FG, 6-7 FT)  to go with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks in a gritty 61-55 win at Lasell. 

Britney Gallagher, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., G - New City, N.Y.) - Gallagher averaged 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week, notching 13 points, four rebounds and four assists in a win over Norwich

Nikki Bitinaitis, Regis (Mass.) (So., G - Cromwell, Conn.) - The sophomore averaged 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists in a 1-2 week while shooting 50/62/85%. She had 14 points and six assists in a loss to SJC and ended the week with 17 points, five boards and four assists in a 63-60 win over Norwich.

Kelsi McNamara, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, G - West Newbury, Mass.) - McNamara averaged 18.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 10.3 assists (2.0 turnovers) in a 3-0 week as the nationally-ranked Monks took care of Regis, Albertus and USJ. She had 13 points and 11 assists at Regis before registering a 24-point, 13-assist performance at Albertus, which entered the contest with only one loss. She closed the week with 17 points and seven assists in just 20 minutes against the Blue Jays. 

Cassandra Stapelfeld, Simmons (Sophomore, G - Brookline, N.H.) - Stapelfeld averaged 19.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 48.1% (13-27 FG) in a 1-1 week, including a 21-point effort in a win over Lasell.

Alexis Hackett, Suffolk (Jr., G - Charlton, Mass.) - Hackett had 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting with 14 rebounds and four assists in a 78-63 victory over Rivier in the Rams' lone game of the week.
