GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 3

(FOR THE WEEK OF NOV. 19-25)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - Cambridge, Mass.)

The reigning USBWA Division III National Player of the Week, Ramirez-Tejeda powered Emmanuel to an impressive 94-67 road victory over Brandeis, scoring a game-high 33 points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds. The junior was 14-of-20 (70.0%) from the field in 38 minutes of action, adding three assists and one steal (six turnovers) in the victory.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cydney Lessard, Rivier (Fr, G - Auburn, N.H.)

In a 77-66 setback to Fisher, Lessard scored 15 points in just 17 minutes of action on 4-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 7-of-7 from the FT line, to go along with three rebounds in the Raiders' only game of the week. 


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL
Breanna Muir, Lasell (Gr., G - Wareham, Mass.) - Muir averaged 12.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in a 1-2 week for Lasell and was named to the All-Tourament Team at the Dr. Betty Shahazz Tournament hosted by Medgar Evers . She scored 19 points in the championship game but Lasell fell to SUNY Old Westbury. 

Kelsi McNamara, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, G - West Newbury, Mass.) - McNamara led #17 Saint Joseph's Southern Maine, 71-51, with a career-high 37 points on the road on Sunday evening. The senior guard shot 66.7% (12-18 FG) from the field and 63.6% (7-11) from three-point distance en route to notching the second-highest point total in the 42-year history of the SJC women's basketball program. She added three assists and only turned it over twice in the win as the Monks improved to 4-0. 

Cassandra Stapelfeld, Simmons (Sophomore, G - Brookline, N.H.) - In a 1-2 week, Stapelfeld averaged 28.0 points per game, while shooting 47.3% (26-55 FG) overall, including 65% (13-20) from three-point range, and 86.4% (13-14) from the FT line in addition to 5.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.0 steals. She scored at least 23 points in each game, highlighted by a 35-point, nine-rebound, six-assist performance in a 102-44 win at Medgar Evers.
