GNAC Softball Athlete of the Week Report #8

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Taylor Chelak, Emmanuel (Jr., OF)

Junior Taylor Chelak had a great week for Emmanuel as the Saints completed a 5-1 week. She batted .556/.609/.944, including four multi-hit games. She hit in five straight, starting with a two-hit game in a non-conference victory over Wheaton on Tuesday (April 16). She followed that by going 5-for-6 in a GNAC doubleheader against Regis on Saturday (April 20). She had a home run in each game against the Pride and recorded six RBI. She also scored three times. Chelak concluded the week with another GNAC doubleheader sweep against Norwich during which she went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two more runs scored. In total, she scored five times and drove in 10 for the week.

PITCHER/ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Hailey Berube, Rivier (Fy., P)

First-year Hailey Berube was masterful in two outings in the circle for Rivier this week, throwing 12 1/3 shutout innings. She opened the week with a relief appearance against Anna Maria. She was one walk away from perfect in the outing, tossing 5 1/3 innings without allowing a hit and striking out six. She then threw her first collegiate complete game shutout, shutting down Simmons for a 5-0 win. She allowed just two hits and one walk, while striking out eight Sharks.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Skylar Arent, Albertus Magnus - Batted .579/.609/.737 with four multi-hit games. Recorded six RBI and scored four times in six games.

Madison Marks, Emmanuel - Made four appearances in the circle, producing a 2-1 record with a save. Threw 19 innings in total, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and six walks. Also sruck out 14 batters. Had five-inning complete game shutouts against  Regis and Norwich.

Mady Lyons, Johnson & Wales - Hit .538/.600/1.308 for the week, driving in nine runs and scoring three times. She had four extra-base hits on the week, including three home runs, all coming in a doubleheader sweep of Elms.

Katie Hopkins, Lasell - Had a productive week at the plate, hitting .480/.581/.920 with 13 runs scored and 10 RBI. Recorded four extra-base hits in eight games, including three home runs. Hit safely in all eight games and also stole four bases. Broke the school record for most career RBI this week.

Grace Giesler, New England College - Hit safely in five straight contests, contributing to a .550/.550/.750 slashline. Scored six times in the five contests and drove in five. Also stole three bases.

Lydia Goodnough, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Contributed to Saint Joseph's (Maine) 5-1 week at the plate and in the circle. Batted .412/.476/.647 with seven runs scored and five RBI. Also made four appearances in the circle, going 3-1 in 25 innings of work. Allowed four earned runs for a 1.12 ERA and recorded 14 strikeouts.

Piper Kinney, Simmons - Pitched 21 2/3 innings in four appearances, going 3-0 in the circle. Threw a complete game shutout against Regis to open the week, striking out 13 Pride batters. She had 41 strikeouts in total, allowing just four earned runs for a 1.29 weekly ERA.

Jenna Zup, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Hit safely in five of six contests, including three multi-hit games to contribute to a .529/.600/.941 week. Had five extra-base hits with four doubles and a home run. Drove in 12 runs on the week and scored three times.
