GNAC Softball Athlete of the Week Report #7

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Katie Hopkins, Lasell (Sr., INF)

Senior Katie Hopkins helped Lasell to a 6-1 week, batting .611/.650/1.222 for the week across the seven contests. She reached base in all seven games, including hitting safely in six of the seven. She closed out the week with four multi-hit games. Hopkins opened the week with a hit apiece in each end of a GNAC doubleheader against Norwich. Later in the week, she went 5-for-6 in a doubleheader against Dean, driving in four runs and scoring herself four times in the twin bill. The senior infielder had a home run in each game against the Bulldogs. Hopkins then closed out the week by going 4-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep of Regis. She scored two more runs and drove in six in the two games. In total, Hopkins scored seven runs and drove in 11.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Eryn Sheeley, Lasell (Sr., P)

Lasell senior Eryn Sheeley had a masterful week in the circle for the Lasers, going 3-0 in three complete game shutout appearances. She tossed 17 innings this week, starting with a seven-inning one-hitter against Norwich.  She walked two and struck out eight as Lasell picked up a 6-0 win. Her next two outings were both five-inning complete games in which she allowed just two hits. The first came in game one of a doubleheader against Dean with the latter coming in game one of double dip with Regis. She had 11 and five strikeouts, respectively in those starts. In total she allowed just five hits, walked three, and struck out 24.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Alexis Martineau, Emmanuel (Fy., 1B/OF)

First-year Alexis Martineau batted .429/.455/.476 this week, helping Emmanuel to a 4-2 record. She opened the week with a hit and an RBI in a non-conference doubleheader with Suffolk before getting into conference action later in the week. In game two of a pair against Rivier, she went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. She picked up her second straight multi-hit game in the opener of a doubleheader with Elms. She went 4-for-4 in that contest with two runs and three RBI. She picked up one more hit in the late game, adding three more runs. In total she had six runs and five RBI on the week.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Josie Cammarata, Elms - Hit in four straight games for Elms, including three two-hit performances. Batted .583/.583/.667 with three runs scored and four RBI on the week.

Olivia Conti, Emmanuel - Hit .409/.435/.909 in six games. Recorded a hit and scored a run in all six contests and had at least one RBI in all, but one. Homered three times on the week and totaled 11 runs and eight RBI.  Also stole four bases.

Caroline Amorelli, Johnson & Wales - Hit safely in seven of eight contests, producing a .524/.560/1.000 slash line. Homered three times in the eight games, contributing to her nine runs and 13 RBI for the week. Also stole three bases.

Rachel Kempf, Norwich - Had a near perfect week at the plate going 8-for-10 in four contests. Was especially strong in a doubleheader against Dean, going 6-for-7 with three runs scored and two RBI in the sweep.

Lydia Goodnough, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Went 7-for-8 in a GNAC doubleheader sweep of Anna Maria. Scored four times and drove in three in the twin bill. Also earned both victories in the circle, going the distance in game one and tossing two relief innings in game two. Allowed only one earned run in each outing.

Piper Kinney, Simmons - Went 3-0 in four outings this week, tossing 23 innings and allowing 15 hits and five earned  runs. Sruck out 30 batters on the week, including 14 in an outing against Anna Maria and 10 in the first game of a doubleheader against New England College.

Jordyn Rubin, Simmons - Slashed .500/.550/.667 in six contests. Had two three-hit games, scored three times, and drove in one run.
