St. Joseph (Conn.) Basketball Team Volunteers At Cancer Fundraiser
The St. Joseph College womens basketball team volunteered at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk Oct. 18 at Bushnell Park in Hartford. Over 1,500 participants braved the rainy weather to walk that day in support of a worthy cause that raised over $300,000. Over 100 GNAC Student Athletes Volunteer at Brian Honan 5K
Over 100 GNAC student-athletes volunteered at the Brian Honan 5K in Allston, Mass. on Sunday, September 20th. GNAC student-athletes have volunteered over the past six years, directing people to the parking lots, registering the 1000 runners, cutting oranges, carrying ice and handing out water along the 3 mile route.

Mount Holyokes Miki Yoshida Selected to Represent GNAC on National SAAC
Mount Holyoke College sophomore Miki Yoshida (Hong Kong, China/Hong Kong Int'l) has been named to the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Her term of service will begin immediately and continue through May 1, 2012. Yoshida will represent both the New England Womens and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

St. Joe's Hosts Free Sports Clinic for National Girls and Women in Sports Day
STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a free sports clinic for area girls on Sunday, February 1st at the Harold Alfond Center. The event was sponsored by the SJC athletic department and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Over 25 girls participated in the clinic and received instruction from team members from each sport. The girls picked up tips in lacrosse, softball, volleyball, basketball, field hockey, soccer and cross country.

Suffolk Hosts Breakfast With Santa
The Suffolk University Athletic Department along with the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) hosted their annual Breakfast with Santa Friday morning in the Regan Gymnasium. Sixty youngsters from the Chinatown YMCA were invited to enjoy breakfast and meet Santa. Breakfast was prepared the coaching staff and the children were served waffles, fresh fruit as well as juice. Suffolk's student-athletes helped serve the meals. Face painting and arts and crafts were also set up for the children to enjoy. All the children got to tell Santa what was on their Christmas list and each received a gift courtesy of the SAAC.

2009-2010 GNAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
The student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student athletes' lives on NCAA member institutions. The GNAC SAAC is comprised of two or three student-athletes from each member institution. The GNAC SAAC meets at least two times per year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
