NEW HAVEN, Conn. - While the battle with COVID-19 continues, the teams of the Albertus Magnus College athletic department continue to work diligently to positively impact the wider community through acts of selfless service and to uphold the four pillars of the College - community, service, prayer, and study. The men's soccer team continued the initiative and volunteered its energy to help the John S. Martinez Sea and Sky Stem Magnet School.

The men's soccer team performed a dual service for the students at John S. Martinez School. Some of the soccer players were filmed reading books for the students in both Spanish and English, given the fact that a significant portion of the population at John S. Martinez is of Hispanic heritage. Other players were filmed doing drills with the soccer ball. These clips were then sent to the school and shown to the students.

"It was great! I really enjoyed being able to get involved with the local community and I look forward to doing many more projects in the future, as it's very rewarding, as well as fun," said sophomore midfielder Declan Ryan (Hamden, Conn.). "I'm very glad I was able to get this opportunity through the men's soccer program."

Second-year graduate assistant coach Alexis Garcia-Romero mirrored his midfielder's sentiments and said, "It's always good to help the community, especially the younger ones because they are the future and we want them to follow a good path."

Through the efforts of the men's soccer team, they were able to make an impact on the younger generations and show them first-hand the value and thrill of competitive athletics and the positive impact it can have on one's life.
