Mustangs Men's Basketball Gives Back at Greater Boston Food Bank

BOSTON, Mass. – The Mount Ida College men's basketball team took some time out of their busy schedule to give back to their community last Monday.

In a week that featured three conference games, the Mustangs spent Monday afternoon at the Great Boston Food Bank, sorting food in the warehouse for the many families it serves.

Working alongside other groups, the men of Mount Ida men's basketball sorted 7,546 pounds of food, meaning that each person made possible 83 meals for members of the community impacted by hunger and homelessness. In total, 4,644 meals were made possible thanks to the volunteer's efforts.

The Mustangs also made an impression on many of the high school students who they were working alongside of, as the students expressed to members of the Food Bank that they wanted to be like the people they saw in uniform Mount Ida travel gear.

The Greater Boston Food Bank is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, providing healthy food to about 545,000 people a year.

Mount Ida continues the heart of their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule on Wednesday evening at Saint Joseph's Maine before returning home for Saturday's rivalry showdown with Lasell at 1:00 pm in Mount Ida Athletic Center.
