GNAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 7

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Nick Gutekunst, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., M - East Northport, N.Y.) -
 
Gutekunst registered two goals and two assists in each game for 12 points in a 2-0 week, as JWU remained perfect in GNAC play with victories over Emmanuel and Anna Maria. Midweek in a 4-2 road win over Emmanuel, the Long Island native scored the eventual game-winner in the 44th minute. He also connected with JP Rioux for the first Wildcat goal in the eighth minute before scoring his first goal of the game four minutes later. Gutekunst added his second assist of the contest seven minutes in to the second half. Gutekunst closed out the week helping the Wildcats to its seventh shutout, recording two goals and two assists for four points against Anna Maria. 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Robert Wagenseller, Norwich (Fr., GK - Poway, Calif.)

Wagenseller made nine saves to backstop Norwich to a 2-0 week. He came within two minutes of posting back-to-back shutouts but surrendered a late goal on a penalty kick to the GNAC leading scorer. Wageneseller stopped all four shots he faced in a 3-0 win over Colby-Sawyer. He then made five more saves in Saturday's 2-1 win over Albertus Magnus. 
 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sunjoon Tenorio, Suffolk (Fr., F - Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands)
 
Tenorio had a seven-point week highlighted by his two-goal effort in a 2-1 overtime win over Regis to capture his second straight GNAC Rookie of the Week honor. After producing one goal and one assist at Wentworth, he scored both of the Rams' strikes in the conference thrilling against the Pride, including the game-winner 1:35 into overtime. 
 

WEEK 7 HONOR ROLL

Salah Oumorou, Albertus Magnus (Jr., F - West Haven, Conn.) - Oumorou led Albertus Magnus with three goals and an assist for seven points in a 1-1 week, which included a season-high five points in the 5-1 win against Regis (Mass.). The junior forward scored both the equalizer and the game-leading goal as well as assisted Abdoul Areumu's tally in to help lift the Falcons over the Pride. On Saturday, Oumorou scored the Falcons' lone goal in the 2-1 loss to Norwich.
 
Jarod Parkins, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, GK - North Kingstown, R.I.) - Parkins picked up a clean sheet in a 3-0 GNAC win over Rivier on Saturday. He made six saves to earn the win. 
 
Edson DaSilva, Lasell (So., M - Hingham, Mass.) - DaSilva scored two goals in a 1-2 week for the Lasers. Both of his goals came in Saturday?s 2-1 overtime GNAC victory over Emmanuel College, the first one in the 56th minute to break a scoreless tie and the second one as the game-winner six minutes into overtime to help Lasell snap a seven-game losing streak.
 
Amerle Nemeye, Norwich (So., M - Burlington, Vt.) - Nemeye continued his recent hot streak, scoring in both of Norwich's victories on the week to help lead the Cadets to a 2-0 week. Nemeye scored the game-winning goal in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Colby-Sawyer, he scored the first goal in Saturday's big 2-1 victory over Albertus Magnus in a battle for third place in the GNAC standings. 
 
Hunter Lortie, Norwich (Fr., M - Manchester, N.H.) - Lortie scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's huge 2-1 victory over fourth place Albertus Magnus. Lortie also picked up an assist in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Colby-Sawyer.
 
Austin Ward, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Sophomore, Midfielder - North Andover, Mass.) - Ward scored a goal in each of the Monks' conference wins last week.
