GNAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 1

(FOR THE OPENING WEEKEND OF AUG. 30-SEPT. 1)

PLAYER / ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Hezekiah Adeyeye, Anna Maria (Fr., M - Woonsocket, R.I.)

In his first two collegiate contests, Adeyeye was able to find the back of the net six times, with five coming in a 5-2 win over Becker College after scoring once in a 3-2 road win over Curry. Hezekiah displayed his speed to beat defenders to the ball for easy attempts that both Curry and Becker's goalkeepers couldn't save.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Jared Brennan, Albertus Magnus (Fr., GK - North Haven, Conn.)

Brennan opened his collegiate career with back-to-back shutout wins versus UMaine-Farmington and Nichols College. Brennan was tremendous in a 3-0 win over the UMaine-Farmington, making six saves, before closing out the week with a three-save performance in a 1-0 win over Nichols.

WEEK 1 HONOR ROLL
Salah Oumorou, Albertus Magnus (Jr., F - West Haven, Conn.) - Oumorou had an impressive week, scoring two goals and an assist for five points to lead Albertus to a 2-0 week, including the game-winner in the 1-0 win over Nichols College.

Nick Gutekunst, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., M - East Northport, NY) - Had 1 goal, 1 assist, and 3 points in the Wildcats victory in the opener on the road.

Julio Arreola, Norwich (Sr., M - Chula Vista, Calif.) - Arreola scored the game-winning goal in both of Norwich's victories on the weekend en route to claiming the 2019 Cadet Kickoff Classic title and Tournament MVP honors. Arreola scored seven minutes into the first OT to lift the Cadets to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Southern Maine on Friday. He then scored the game-winning goal in Norwich's impressive 4-0 victory over Wheaton with a goal in the final minute of the first half to give the Cadets the lead going into halftime.

Mergim Kutllovci, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., M - Thomaston, Conn.) - Kutllovci wasted little time making a name for himself in a USJ uniform, recording a hat trick in his first collegiate contest to power USJ past MCLA, 5-2, in the Blue Jays' season opener on Friday. With the match tied 2-2 in the second half, Kutllovci's third and final goal off a perfectly executed free kick from 25-yards out in the 68th minute, would serve as the game-winner for USJ.

Michael Wildes, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sophomore, D - Winslow, Maine) - Wildes scored the game-winning goal in the Monks' 2-1 victory at Endicott College on Friday evening.
