PLAYER OF THE WEEK Chas Terni Jr., Mitchell (So., OF/SS) Sophomore Chas Terni Jr. turned in a huge week for the Mariners as the Montville, Conn. native slashed .471/.500/1.059, with three home runs, 13 RBI's, and four runs scored. Terni Jr. added a double, two walks, and three stolen bases, helping guide the Mariners to a 4-1 record, including a 3-1 mark in conference play. He had multiple hits in three games, highlighted by a huge performance in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader at Albertus Magnus, where he went 3-4 with three homers, five RBI, and three runs scored. Overall, in the doubleheader against the Falcons, Terni Jr. went 5-8 with three home runs, nine RBI, and three runs scored. Also had three hits and drove in three runs in a GNAC win over Colby-Sawyer. |

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Jeff Valdez Jimenez, Johnson & Wales (Fr., INF) First-Year Jeff Valdez Jimenez batted .429 with 13 RBI's in a 4-1 week across five games for the Wildcats last week as the Boston, Mass. native went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI on Tuesday against Elms before driving in three (3-for-6) the following afternoon against UMass Boston. Valdez Jimenez drove in two against Western New England before he closed the week by driving in a pair in a home win against Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Sunday. |
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Nick Choate, Anna Maria - Threw 12 strikeouts in seven innings of work, allowing four hits and one earned run (1.29 era).
Andrew Denison, Anna Maria - Went 12-for-17 at the plate (.706/.762/.706) while scoring seven runs, stealing six bases, and collecting five RBI's in a 2-2 week for the Amcats.
Jordan Almendarez, Dean - Went 7-for-16 at the plate (.438/.524/.500) while collecting eight RBI's in a 2-2 week for the Bulldogs.
Trevor Juan, Johnson & Wales - Hit safely in all five games this week for the Wildcats, closing the week with a walk-off home run against St. Joseph's (ME) on Sunday. He opened the week with a two-hit, two-RBI game against Elms and wrapped the weekend with eight RBI in three games this weekend, plating three against Western New England on Saturday and four on Sunday.
CJ Mills, Lasell - Went 4-for-5 at-bat for the Lasers in a 8-2 win over Brandeis, collecting a run and RBI each with a stolen base as well.
Michael Gadja, Mitchell - Despite playing in just two games, he was dominant at the plate, slashing .750/.800/1.125 with a home run, four RBI, and five runs scored. After going 1-3 and scoring twice in a GNAC win over Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday, Gajda had a monster day on the road in a non-league game at MIT, finishing 5-5 with a grand slam and a walk, driving in four runs and scoring three times.
Eddie Kaftan, Mitchell - Was dominant in his lone appearance on the mound for the Mitchell baseball team this past week, allowing just one earned run across seven innings (1.29 era) in a 12-2 GNAC win over Colby-Sawyer. Kaftan did not surrender a hit until the top of the fifth inning and gave up just one walk, retiring eight batters by way of the strikeout en route to his third win of the spring.
Nathan Abbott, Norwich - In his lone appearance of the week, Abbott came on in relief in the seventh inning and became key in Norwich's 13-inning win over Rivier on Friday. In all of those innings, he allowed one run (1.29 era) on six hits with two walks while striking out five, keeping the Raiders off the board and securing his first career win.
Geffen Franus, Norwich - Led Norwich to a doubleheader sweep against Rivier as he went 3-6 in the opening contest with three runs scored, six total bases, and two steals, highlighted by a walk-off solo home run in the 13th inning to clinch the win. He set the tone in game two with an outfield assist on a play at the plate before going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Franus slashed .500/.583/.900 with nine total bases on the week.
Nate Bonacorsi, Rivier - Pitched six innings and fanned 10 while giving up only three hits and one run (1.50 era).
Ryan Quinn, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Powered USJ to a 3-1 week, including a perfect 3-0 in GNAC play, as he went 6-for-14 at the plate with five RBI's and two stolen bases.
Ethan Slowik, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Tossed the first-ever nine-inning complete game in program history, striking out six in a 4-1 win over Elms College in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in West Hartford.
Aaron LaRose, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Tossed eight scoreless innings with seven strikeouts to propel the Blue Jays to a 2-1 victory Tuesday afternoon at home versus GNAC opponent New England College.
