GNAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Report #5

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Trevor Juan, Johnson & Wales (Sr., OF)

Senior outfielder Trevor Juan was the offensive force for Johnson & Wales (JWU), leading them to an undefeated 5-0 week. The Bolton, Conn. native batted .565 with a .583 OBP and 12 RBI in five games for the Wildcats last week. He recorded at least two hits in all five outings, including a four-hit effort against Norwich on Saturday. Juan smacked a home run and drove in five at Coast Guard to begin the week and later went yard and plated three in a road win at WPI. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Aidan Vining, Johnson & Wales (Jr., P)

Junior pitcher Aidan Vining displayed pure dominance on the hill for the Wildcats as the Woburn, Mass. native did not allow a single run in his two appearances (10 total innings) this week for JWU, only allowing four hits and striking out a total of 16 batters, 13 of which came in a complete game conference win for Vining over Norwich. He stands atop the conference currently in earned run average at 1.72 and second in strikeouts with 34.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jeff Valdez Jimenez, Johnson & Wales (Fr., INF)

Freshman infielder Jeff Valdez Jimenez collected eight hits in 22 at-bats for the Wildcats this past week as the Boston, Mass. native batted .364 with three home runs and 10 RBI's, helping JWU go 5-0 on the week. Valdez Jimenez recorded an RBI in all five outings and hit safely in four of them. His week was highlighted by a two-home run, five-RBI effort in a road win at WPI on Friday. He scored four runs and drove in two in two GNAC games. 


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Jack Angelo, Albertus Magnus - Pitched six scoreless innings of scoreless relief in win over Dean, collecting five strikeouts in the process.

Scott Lyon, Lasell - Went 7-for-13 at the plate, averaging .538 at-bat and collecting two homers with six RBI's in a 4-0 week for Lasell.

Matthew Fletcher, Lasell - Fanned 10 batters in two appearances, collecting a win over Saint Joseph's (Maine) and a save against Curry.

Michael Ficocelli, Mitchell - Slashed .471/.550/.706, helping guide Mitchell to a 4-0 record on the week. Ficocelli had eight hits in 17 at bats, including a double and a home run, while driving in six runs and scoring three times. He added three walks and recorded multiple hits in three of four games, including a 4-for-4 performance with a double, three RBI, and a run scored in Mitchell's first GNAC game of the season, a 10-0 win over Anna Maria.

Chris Gibbs, Mitchell - Collected a save against nationally-ranked Salve Regina and tossed a seven inning complete game shutout against Anna Maria, scattering three hits and two walks, striking out seven in the win.

Kenneth Miller Jr., Mitchell - Slashed .462/.500/.692, helping lead the Mariners to a 4-0 record. Miller Jr. had six hits in 13 at bats, including a homer run, with five RBI and four runs scored. He recorded a base hit in three of four games, including a 3-for-3 performance with two RBI's and two runs scored during Mitchell's first GNAC game of the season, a 10-0 victory over Anna Maria. He also had a strong performance in a win over nationally ranked Salve Regina, going 2-for-3 with a run scored against the Seahawks.

Max Francisco, New England College - Went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk in his first career start in a conference win over Anna Maria. 

William Dionne, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Allowed only three hits, with no earned runs allowed and striking out five batters.

Dom Scalia, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Went 7-for-15 at the plate, slashing .467 and collecting six RBI's on a 2-2 week for the Blue Jays.
