GNAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Report #3

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Tim Callahan, Lasell (Sr., INF)

Senior Infielder Tim Callahan was very reliable at the plate for the Lasers as the Attleboro, Mass. native amssed nine hits on 13 at-bats with six of them resulting in runners scoring. Callahan went 3-for-5 against UMass Boston with an RBI before posting a 4-for-5 outing with two RBI's while crossing the plate three times for Lasell in a narrow 9-8 win over Thiel. The senior would end the week with two doubles against Gettysburg, driving in all three runs for the Lasers in that game. He slashed for .692/.714/.846 splits while going 8-for-8 on putouts on the field.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Matthew Fletcher, Lasell (Sr., P)

Senior pitcher Matthew Fletcher displayed a strong outing on the mound in just 5.2 innings pitched in the Lasers' 9-8 victory as the Wethersfield, Conn. native fanned 13 batters at the plate, while only giving up two hits and a walk. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jaken Pellerin, New England College (So., C)

First-year infielder Jaken Pellerin was on a tear going 7-for-8 with five extra base hits including his first career home run. Despite being limited to two games due to injury, the Manchester, N.H. native put up a blistering .875 batting average and a 1.750 slugging percentage while batting in three runs and scoring four times.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

AJ Cook, Elms - Went 7-for-11, posting a .636% batting average, collecting three runs batted in, five walks, and nine stolen bases for the Blazers on the week.

Jeff Valdez Jimenez, Johnson & Wales - Batted .333% with six hits and five RBI for the Wildcats. His best outing was a 3-for-4, four-RBI game in a win at No. 16 Randolph Macon on Monday. Jimenez also collected two hits against William Peace on March 7 and scored three runs last week.

Aidan Vining, Johnson & Wales - Allowed three hits and one run over eight in a 5-2 win over William Peace. Vining issued one free pass and fanned seven.

Michael Ficcocelli, Mitchell - Batted .421% on the week for Mitchell across five non-conference games. Ficocelli was 8-for-19 with four RBI's and two runs scored. He registered at least one base hit in four out of five games, including a 4-4 performance with two runs driven in during a game against Coast Guard.

Yeri Ramos, NEC - Recorded a hit in all five of the team's games this week - good for a .471 batting average along with a .824 slugging percentage. Ramos led the team with nine runs batted in, including willing the team to an 8-7 win over Neumann with a five RBI performance on Thursday where he was just a home run shy of the cycle.

Geffen Franus, Norwich - Was a force to be reckoned with at the plate this week, going a combined 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored and an RBI against RV Elizabethtown. In total, he slashed .412/.500/.647 with five runs scored, two RBI's and 11 total bases.

Nathan Innerfield, Rivier - Went 7-for-17 while slashing .412/.545/.529 with two doubles, five RBI's, four runs scored, four walks, and a stolen base to help Rivier secure its best start in program history (4-4 through eight games.)

Nic Frink, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Went 3-for-6 with a .500% batting average and two RBI's in two victories over Penn St. Brandywine.

Padrag Mac Seain, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Pitched a complete game in his one appearance, achieving a 2-1 win. He pitched a total of 7.0 innings, maintaining an ERA of 1.29 and a WHIP of .57. Mac Seain recorded 7 strikeouts, averaging 9.00 strikeouts per game, and allowed two hits and one run. He faced 23 at-bats against, with a batting average against of .087.

Dom Scalia, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Went 7-for-15 on a .467% batting average, incuding a triple and a homer, with three RBI's and 12 total bases on the week for the Blue Jays.
