GNAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Report #3

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mateus Silvestre, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (So.)

Sophomore Mateus Silvestre had a perfect week for the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) as the Blue Jays played to a 2-0 week as a team. Silvestre competed in both singles and doubles, settling in the No. 2 spot as an individual, while playing as part of USJ’s No. 1 pair. He started the week by dropping just a single game in his two matches against Salem State. He earned an 8-0 win in doubles and a 6-1, 6-0 victory in singles. He followed that up with a 8-2 doubles win against Albertus Magnus’ top duo and a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of the Falcons at No. 2 singles.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Christian Kaverud, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (Fr.)

Freshman Christian Kaverud earned two points in each of the University of Saint Joseph’s (Conn.) 9-0 sweeps this week. He played in the top spot in both singles and doubles in both matches. First, he picked up an 8-0 doubles win against Salem State before coming from behind to take a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 singles win against the Vikings ace. He followed that up with a 8-2 doubles win against Albertus Magnus and a 6-0, 6-0 singles win against the Falcons top player.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Carlos Gallardo, Eastern Nazarene - Went 3-0 this week in two matches, including a win at No. 1 doubles against Curry. Also won at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles in matches against Curry and Norwich.
