GNAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 8

(FOR THE WEEK OF OCT. 15-21)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Teagan Drake, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr, M - Waterbury, Vt.)

Drake amassed four goals on the week for eight points, with a key strike against Emmanuel on Wednesday before registering a hat trick at Anna Maria in a 5-1 win on Saturday. 

 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Joe Russo, Albertus Magnus (Sr., GK - North Haven, Conn.)

Russo registered a solid week in net for Albertus, posting 13 saves on 14 shots in a 2-0 week. The senior notched his fifth win of the year in a 3-1 victory over USJ, stopping 12 shots before recording his first shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Rivier. He also posted a .929 save percentage over 174 minutes of action. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Austin Ward, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Fr, M - North Andover, Mass.)

Ward tallied two goals and two assists for six total points in a 2-0 week for the Monks.


WEEK 8 HONOR ROLL
Abdoul Aremu, Albertus Magnus (So., F - West Haven, Conn.) - Aremu was stellar for the Falcons, scoring two goals and notching an assist for a five-point week in a par of GNAC victories. Aremu played a hand in the Falcons' 3-1 win over USJ, scoring the first goal of the game, before closing out the week registering a goal and an assist for five points in the 3-0 win at Rivier. 

Noah Camelo, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, C - Marblehead, Mass.) - Camelo scored a goal in each of the Chargers' two wins last week. He scored the lone goal and game-winner in an important 1-0 win over Norwich to serve the Cadets just their second loss of the season. Camelo then added the game's first goal in a 3-2 double overtime victory at Regis to help Colby-Sawyer secure a first-round home game in the GNAC Tournament. 

Adam Cassidy, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr, GK - Jersey City, NJ) - Cassidy had a clean week with six saves no goals scored against.

Derek Triana, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., F - Port St. Lucie, Fla.) - Triana had two goals for four points last week as the Pride went 1-1. Wednesday, he scored the Pride's second goal against Anna Maria in the 70th minute, which would turn out to be the game-winning goal, the ninth GWG of his career. Saturday, he scored in the 76th minute to complete the Pride's comeback from a 2-0 deficit, tying the match at 2-2 to force overtime. 

Noah Robinson, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, F - Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) - Robinson racked up five points in a 2-0 week for the Monks, as the junior standout netted the game-winner in a 4-0 triumph at Southern Maine on Tuesday and added a goal and an assist in a lopsided victory over Lasell on Saturday.
