GNAC Men's Soccer Report: Week 4

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 17-23)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cody Elliott, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, M - Gorham, Maine)

Elliott put forth an impressive effort in a win over Regis (Mass.) on Saturday, as the junior midfielder played a hand in all four of the Monks' goals with a tally and three assists. With his first helper versus the Pride, Elliott broke the Monks' career assists record and now has 24 assists in just 49 games over three seasons.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Anes Gadun, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., GK - Clinton, Conn.)

Gadun helped lead the Blue Jays to an unbeaten GNAC week (1-0-1) after stopping 15 of 16 shots for a .938 save percentage. The lone goal he surrendered on the week came on a penalty kick in the 10th minute in an eventual 3-1 win at Anna Maria on Wednesday. He followed that up with 190 straight minutes of flawless netminding. He needed to make just two saves in the remaining 80 minutes in the win against the AMCATS before stopping a career-high 13 shots on goal in a 0-0 double-overtime draw on the road at Suffolk on Saturday. It marked the first double-digit save effort for the rookie and his second shutout for the season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Amerle Nemeye, Norwich (Fr., M - Burlington, Vt.)

In Norwich's only game of the week, Nemeye scored the game-winning goal and had an assist on Wednesday to help the Cadets to a big 2-1 victory over intrastate rival Castleton, which made the NCAA Tournament a year ago. He leads the Cadets with four goals and six assists for 14 points, which ranks tied for the GNAC lead in points. Nemeye has a point in six of Norwich's eight games this season.


WEEK 4 HONOR ROLL
Lucas Boetsch, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, GK - Rockport, Maine) - Boetsch got the start against Lasell and posted a clean sheet with eight saves in the team's 4-0 victory. 

Ryan Kresco, Colby-Sawyer (Fr, F - Moultonborough, N.H.) - Kresco led the Chargers with 2 goals in a 1-1 week. Both of his goals came in Colby-Sawyer's 4-0 win against Lasell. 

Jonathan Ferrarini, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, GK - Hanover, Mass.) - Ferrarini helped lift Emmanuel to its first shutout victory of the season in a 4-0 GNAC victory over Rivier University. On the week, the junior finished with 10 saves, a .909 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average in 180 minutes in net. 

Kyle King, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Fr, F - Gorham, Maine) - King gave Emmanuel a lift with a two-goal effort in GNAC action over Rivier University, netted two second half goals in the Saints 4-0 victory over the Raiders. It was the first multi-goal game of the rookie's career as he converted two of his three attempts in the win.

Ivan Ramirez, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., GK - San Juan, Puerto Rico) - Ramirez made his first career start Wednesday at Lasell, playing all 110 minutes as the Pride played to a 1-1 tie. He made seven saves in the match, the first saves of his collegiate career, and finished with an .875 save percentage. Ramirez made a key save in each overtime period to keep the Pride in the match. Before Wednesday's match, Ramirez had played just over 26 minutes in net in two relief appearances. 

DeAnte Anderson, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., F - Bloomfield, Conn.) - Anderson scored the game-tying and then assisted on the game-winning goal to help lift the Blue Jays to a 3-1 victory over Anna Maria on Wednesday afternoon in GNAC action in an unbeaten (1-0-1) week for USJ. The rookie netted his second goal of the season in the 22nd minute to knot the score before providing the game-winning helper in the 66th minute to power the Blue Jays to their third straight win in their inaugural season.
