BIDDEFORD, Maine – Saint Joseph's College and University of New England dueled to a 1-1 stalemate in non-conference women's soccer action at Barbara J. Hazard Field on Friday evening. The contest was the 2019 season opener for both programs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Trailing 1-0 with 6:29 remaining, Saint Joseph's knotted up the match when sophomore forward Emma Auclair (Kittery, Maine) knocked in a rebound off a Kendall Dolan (Kennebunk, Maine) attempt. For Auclair, the goal was the first of her college career.
Following a scoreless first half, the Nor'easters found the back of the net at the 46:48 mark when sophomore Alyssa Boilard (Wilbraham, Mass.) notched her first career goal with a shot to the top left corner.
UNE outshot SJC by an 8-1 margin in the two 10-minute overtime frames, but sophomore keeper Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) proved up to the task with four saves to preserve the tie.
THE KEEPERS:
- Grogan finished the evening with nine saves
- UNE junior goalkeeper Jenna Pannone (Prospect, Conn.) turned away eight shots
TEAM STATS:
UNE held advantages in shots (23-14), shots on goal (10-9), and corner kicks (4-3) in the stalemate.
