STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-1-1, 2-0-0 GNAC) blanked Regis College (4-3-0, 1-1-0 GNAC), 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sophomore Emma Auclair (Kittery, Maine) opened the scoring in the 36th minute, when she took a pass from Eilidh Sidaway (Dedham, Maine) on the right side of the box and unleashed a shot to the left panel of the net for her second goal of the season.
The 1-0 remained until the 51:05 mark when sophomore Ashley Emery (Madison, Maine) scored her first of two goals in the conference win. Collecting the ball in the middle of a scrum near the goalmouth, Emery wheeled a shot on target that was blocked by a Regis defender – but the officials convened about the play and ruled that the ball crossed the goal line. Junior McKenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine) was credited with an assist on the play.
Eight minutes later, Emery closed out the scoring with an unassisted marker, her third strike of the season.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (14-6), shots on goal (6-4), and corner kicks (4-2) in the GNAC triumph.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC sophomore Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) made four stops in 77:03 minutes before giving way to senior Cori Balam (Lyndeborough, N.H.), who was untested in 12:57 minutes of relief.
Regis also employed a pair of keepers in the setback, with starter Ori Attridge allowing three goals with three saves over 69:48 minutes and Angie Caldwell logging 20:12 minutes of uneventful play.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
Saint Joseph's is now 2-0-1 all-time versus Regis College, a team the Monks defeated by a 3-1 score last fall.
