GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 13

( FOR THE WEEK OF FEB. 4-10 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kelsi McNamara, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sr, G - West Newbury, Mass.)

McNamara averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a 2-0 week for the No. 8 nationally-ranked Monks. She had a huge game in a 79-69 home win over longtime conference power Emmanuel, finishing with 30 points (11-24 FG, 3-10 3PT, 5-6 FT), eight assists and three steals to help the Monks cement their place atop the conference and extend their regular-season winning streak versus GNAC opponents to 28 games. She also had 17 points (4-10 FG, 2-6 3PT, 7-7 FT) and seven assists over 29 minutes in a 76-54 win over UMaine-Fort Kent on Sunday. She shot 44/31/92% for the week. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cheyenne-Mone Smith, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G/F - Wethersfield, Conn.)

Smith averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 4.0 steals in a two-game stretch for the Blue Jays, who faced stiff competition against Albertus and Emmanuel last week. She erupted for 28 points, 12 boards, four assists and six steals in a Tuesday loss to the Falcons before posting 11 points, and five rebounds against the Saints on Saturday. She shot 50% overall (17- 34 FG) and was 5-of-7 from the FT line. 


WEEK 13 HONOR ROLL
Shyla Osmond, Albertus Magnus (Jr., G - New Haven, Conn.) - The junior guard averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals while shooting 60/46/75% overall. Osmond opened the week by registering 26 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in a win USJ before again posting 26 points with four boards and three steals in a win at Regis. 

Amber Wilson, Anna Maria (SO, G - New York, N.Y.) - Wilson averaged 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in a 1-1 week in GNAC play. She had 19 points and 11 reboards against Simmons and 25 points in a two-point loss versus Johnson & Wales. She shot 42/63/82% across the board for the week.

Tianna Sugars, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, C - Oxford, Maine) - Sugars led the Chargers to a 1-1 week by averaging 20.0 points and 14.0 rebounds, while shooting an impressive 66.7% (16-24 FG) from the floor. Sugars began the week with game-highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds to help Colby-Sawyer to a 55-53 road win at Norwich. She was 9-of-12 from the floor, 5-of-7 from the FT line and added a pair of blocks. Sugars ended the week with a team-best 17 points (7-12 FG) and a game-high 15 rebounds in a tough 63-54 loss to Suffolk. She played all but three minutes in the two games and turned it over only twice.

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - Cambridge, Mass.) - Ramirez-Tejeda continued her solid play for Emmanuel, averaging 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. She posted 17 points and eight rebounds in a 79-69 at No. 8 Saint Joseph's of Maine and then registered 17 points and seven boards in just 16 minutes against USJ. 

Ally Mishol, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., F - Longmeadow, Mass.) - Mishol averaged a double-double of 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week, highlighted by a 14-point, 13-rebound effort at Lasell on Tuesday. 

Breanna Muir, Lasell (Gr., G - Wareham, Mass.) - Muir exploded for 31 points (10-20 FG, 5-9 3PT, 6-8 FT), six rebounds, five assists (no turnovers) in Tuesday's 81-64 win over Rivier as part of a 1-2 week for the Lasers. She averaged 18.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 44/45/77% across the board. She tallied 13 points and four assists in a GNAC loss to WU and finished the week with 12 points and six rebounds in a conference loss to Norwich.

Mary Casamassa, Norwich (Fr., G/F - Wexford, Pa.) - The rookie averaged 14.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week, including an 11-point, 14-rebound double-double in a 44-38 win at Lasell. 

Cassandra Stapelfeld, Simmons (So, G - Brookline, N.H.) - The sophomore averaged 26.5 points on 46/70/86% shooting marks in a 1-1 week. She exploded for 32 points (9-18 FG, 6-7 3PT, 8-9 FT) at Anna Maria to become the first player in school history to score 500 or more points in a season. She also had 21 points in a 76-75 win at Rivier. 

Jenni-Rose DiCecco, Suffolk (So., G - Falmouth, Mass.) - In the Rams' lone game of the week, a 63-54 road win on Saturday over Colby-Sawyer, the floor general exploded for 28 points (7-16 FG, 6-11 3PT, 8-8 FT), five rebounds, and four assists. She played all 40 minutes in the victory and only had two turnovers.
