GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 10

( FOR THE WEEK OF JAN. 14-20 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shyla Osmond, Albertus Magnus (Jr., G - New Haven, Conn.)

Osmond averaged 34.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.5 steals in a 2-0 road week, while shooting 52/42/81% overall for the Falcons. She recorded her fourth double-double in an 83-57 win at Simmons, registering 27 points (10-20 FG, 6-9 FT), 13 rebounds, five assists and four steals. She followed up with a a career-high 41 points (15-28 FG, 4-9 3PT, 7-7 FT), seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals in a 78-75 win against Colby Sawyer. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Dede Stevenson, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fr., G - Hartford, Conn.)

Stevenson averaged 19 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week, while shooting an impressive 46/78/92% from the floor.  In a road win over Rivier, she registered 16 points, five rebounds and four assists, and connected on a late three-pointer to put JWU ahead, 84-83, before connecting on 4-of-4 FT attempts in the final 20 seconds to seal the victory. She followed up with a career-high 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 5-of-6 from three, with four boards and three assists at Suffolk. 


WEEK 10 HONOR ROLL
Kayla Weaver, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - West Haven, Conn.) - Weaver powered the Saints to a 2-0 week, averaging 17.0 points, 3.5 assists and 6.0 steals in just 27.5 minutes per game. The guard scored a team-high 18 points  (6-10 FG) to go along with seven steals in a 75-60 win over non-conference Newbury before adding a 16-point (6-12 FG) effort in a GNAC victory over Rivier.

Mary Casamassa, Norwich (Fr., G/F - Wexford, Pa.) - The rookie nearly averaged a double-double in a 1-2 week for the Cadets, posting per-game marks of 10.7 points and 9.7 rebounds, including a pair of double-doubles against Bates (13 PTS, 12 REB) and Suffolk (11 PTS, 12 REB). She also averaged 3.7 assists per contest on the week. 

Katryna Veasey, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., F - Quincy, Mass.) -  Veasey moved into the sixth-man role for the Pride last week and averaged 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in just 23.0 minutes per game as Regis went 1-1. She double-doubled in a road win over Lasell, scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with 10 boards in 24 minutes on Saturday. 

Kelsi McNamara, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior, G - West Newbury, Mass.) - In a 2-0 week for the No. 11 nationally-ranked Monks, who are now 17-0 overall, the 2017 GNAC Player of the Year averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 8.0 assists, while shooting 46/40/90%. She posted 22 points (9-16 FG, 3-5 3PT) to go with six boards and seven assists in a 75-52 win over Colby-Sawyer before registering 25 points and nine assists in just 28 minutes in a 75-62 win over Anna Maria. She turned it over just twice in each contest. 

Cassandra Stapelfeld, Simmons (Sophomore, G - Brookline, N.H.) - The sophomore averaged 25.5 points while shooting 45/20/83% overall in a two-game week, which included a 27-point outburst in a 72-65 setback to Fisher.  Earlier in the week, she scored 24 points in a road setback against Albertus.

Alexis Hackett, Suffolk (Jr., G - Charlton, Mass.) - In a 2-0 week for the Rams, who have won eight of nine overall and are 4-0 in GNAC play, Hackett averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 boards while shooting 56.7% (17-30 FG) overall from the floor. She had 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting in a win at Norwich before posting an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double at home versus JWU. She hadded four assists, three steals and three blocks against the Wildcats.
