GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 8

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Amanda Ortiz, Lasell (Jr., G - Newton, Mass.)

In the Lasers' only game of the week, Ortiz scored 27 points on 10-of-22 shooting and 7-of-8 from the FT line to go with seven rebounds and five steals in a 61-54 win over Maine-Farmington. She scored eight points in the fourth quarter as Lasell outscored UMF, 25-11, in the quarter to pull out the come-from-behind victory.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Silvana Barcomb, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G - Middletown, Conn.)

Barcomb registered a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 (63.6%) shooting in just 22 minutes of action in the Blue Jays' lone game of the week, a 73-62 setback to Northern Vermont-Lyndon. The 5-4 rookie from Middletown was perfect (3-3) from the field until halfway through the third and was 3-of-4 from the FT line.


WEEK 8 HONOR ROLL
Jill Johnson, Albertus Magnus (Sr., G - North Haven, Conn.) - Johnson averaged 22.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals while shooting 65.4% (17-26 FG) as the Falcons went 2-0 last week in non-conference play. The senior guard began the week with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win over Fitchburg State before posting 23 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in the win at Mitchell. She was 11-of-18 from the FT line in the two wins as Albertus improved to 12-1 overall. 

Sierra Johnson, Anna Maria (JR, G - Brockton, Mass.) - Johnson had 20 points on 10-of-20 shooting to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals in an 89-51 win over Northern Vt.-Johnson. 

Lexie Hamilton, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, G - Sunapee, N.H.) - Hamilton led the Chargers to a 2-0 week by averaging 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 3.0 steals. The junior guard began the action with a 19-point, nine-assist, seven-rebound performance in a 67-54 win over Salem State. Hamilton ended the week with 11 points, seven boards and seven assists in a 53-39 road win at Thomas. She shot 26/37/83 for the week.

Emily Oliver, Norwich (Sr., G - Sagamore Hills, Ohio) - Oliver scored 17 points (3-6 FG, 11-17 FT) to go with eight rebounds, nine assists and four steals in Norwich's 68-48 victory over Newbury on Saturday. Almost completed the triple-double with nine assists and eight rebounds, as well as four steals. Shot 3-6 from the field and 11-17 from the line. 

Maura Russell, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., G - Braintree, Mass.) - Russell averaged 10.3 points on 40% shooting across three games, including 15.5 points per game in a pair of victories for the Pride. She had 17 in a 62-57 win at Brandeis and registered 14 points in 28 minutes in a 49-37 win at Becker.

Cassandra Stapelfeld, Simmons (So, G - Brookline, N.H.) - The sophomore averaged 19.5 points and 3.0 assists on 38/33/100 shooting percentages in a pair of setbacks last week. After a 19-point outing at Eastern Nazarene, she had 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting at Emerson, going a perfect 10-of-10 from the FT line in the two games.
