GNAC Women's Basketball Report: Week 11

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Emily Benway, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Sr., F - Rochester, N.H.)

Benway averaged 16.0 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 60.9% (14-23 FG) from the floor in two GNAC wins last week. In a rematch of the 2018 GNAC Championship game against Suffolk on Saturday, she shot 9-of-10 for 20 points to go with nine boards and two blocks in a key victory for the Monks. The senior forward also double-doubled with 12 points and 15 rebounds in a victory at Simmons on Thursday night.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cheyenne-Mone Smith, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., G/F - Wethersfield, Conn.)

Smith filled up the stat sheet in a 1-2 road week for USJ, averaging 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.3 blocks. She contributed 14 points (5-9 FG), seven boards, five steals and three blocks in a win at John Jay before notching 14 points, eight caroms and four blocks in a setback at JWU. She closed the week with 10 points, five boards, four assists, four steals and three blocks at Rivier. 


WEEK 11 HONOR ROLL
Shyla Osmond, Albertus Magnus (Jr., G - New Haven, Conn.) - Osmond averaged 28.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals while shooting 46/38/100% in a 1-1 week. She opened the week scoring 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in a win over Lasell before recording 33 points (12-31 FG, 5-12 3PT), six rebounds, two assists and six steals in a 86-84 setback at Emmanuel.

Amber Wilson, Anna Maria (SO, G - New York, N.Y.) - Wilson averaged 16.5 points and 6.0. rebounds while shooting 48/57/100% in a 1-1 week, including a 20-point (5-8 FG, 3-5 3PT, 7-7 FT) performance in a road win over Lasell. 

Tianna Sugars, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, C - Oxford, Maine) - Sugars averaged 18.3 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, while shooting 52.4% from the floor in a 2-1 week for the Chargers. She began the week with team highs of 17 points (7-11 FG), nine rebounds and three blocks in a tough road loss at Bates. Sugars then recorded double-doubles in back to back GNAC wins to end the week. She posted 24 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks in a 76-49 win over Rivier and followed with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Simmons. 

Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Jr, G - Cambridge, Mass.) - Ramirez-Tejeda averaged 19.7 points (50%) and 9.3 rebounds during a 3-0 week for the Saints, including a monster 33-point, 11-rebound effort in Emmanuel's thrilling 86-84 overtime win over Albertus Magnus. She also had 17 points and 10 boards against Simmons and nine points and seven boards in just 21 minutes against Norwich. 

Ally Mishol, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Sr., F - Longmeadow, Mass.) - Mishol averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals in a 1-1 week. She produced 21 points and six rebounds in a win over USJ and just missed a double-double (19 points and eight rebounds) at Regis. 

Amanda Ortiz, Lasell (Jr., G - Newton, Mass.) - Ortiz averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 6.0 steals in a pair of Laser losses. She had 13 points, nine rebounds and five steals in a loss at Albertus Magnus, and added 25 points (10-20 FG), five rebounds and seven steals in a setback to Anna Maria.

Elizabeth Meehan, Rivier (Sr, G - Nashua, N.H.) - Meehan became the second student-athlete in program history to record a triple-double as she guided the Raiders to a GNAC victory USJ on Saturday, going 12-of-20 for 27 points to go with 13 rebounds and 12 assists. In a 1-1 week, she played all 40 minutes in each game, averaging 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists. 

Cassandra Stapelfeld, Simmons (Sophomore, G - Brookline, N.H.) - In three games, the sophomore averaged 19.7 points against top GNAC competition last week, including 27- and 24-point performances at Emmanuel and home versus Saint Joseph's of Maine. 

Alexis Hackett, Suffolk (Jr., G - Charlton, Mass.) - Hackett averaged 16.7 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 58/36/59% in a 2-1 week, including a monster 21-point, 19-rebound performance against Regis. She also double-doubled (17 PTS, 11 REB) against Anna Maria before posting 12 points and six boards in a loss at Saint Joseph's of Maine.
