GNAC Softball Athlete of the Week Report #9

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chantelle Bouchard, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (So., C)

Chantelle Bouchard was a key run producer for Saint Joseph’s (Maine) this week. She scored 10 runs and drove in 10 this week, while batting .444/.483/.963. She had eight extra-base hits, including three home runs. She had an RBI or scored in all but one contest starting with a doubleheader sweep of Mitchell. He had a hit and an RBI in each of the twin bill, including long ball number one of the week. She followed that up with a 3-fo-6 day against the University of New England in a two-game set. She also homered against the Nor’easters. Following her lone hit-less game of the week, Bouchard concluded the regular season with a hit against Emmanuel and a 6-for-8 day against Rivier over the weekend. Four of her hits against the Raiders went for extra bases including her third big fly.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Olivia Olson, New England College (Jr., P/OF)

New England College junior Olivia Olson did not allow an earned run in 19 1/3 innings of work this week, producing a 3-0 record. Her first victory came in non-conference action against Keene State. She tossed seven innings against the Owls, allowing eight hits and striking out three. She followed that up with a six-inning complete game shutout against Anna Maria in game one of a doubleheader. She would return to pitch the second game in relief for her second win of the day. She allowed nine hits in the 12 1/3 innings against the AMCATS and struck out six, giving her nine whiffs for the week.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Mel Rees, Regis (Fy., P/3B)

Regis first-year Mel Rees helped the Pride win five games this week, contributing both at the plate and in the circle. In the batter’s box, Rees contributed a .429/.478/.810 slash line with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, and five runs scored, while in the circle, she tossed 26 innings, going 3-0 with a save. She started the week with a five-hit showing in a doubleheader sweep of Mass. Maritime, scoring in both games and driving in four total runs. She also held the Buccaneers to a single hit in the circle and struck out seven. Next against Dean, her contributions came mostly from her pitching ability as she earned a one-hit shutout in game one against the Bulldogs before throwing 2 1/3 innings in relief in game two for the save. She did homer in the late contest. Rees performed well in game one of a twin bill with the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) earning the 5-3 win in the circle and going 2-for-4 at the plate with her second home run of the week.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Amanda Savinelli, Albertus Magnus - Earned a GNAC victory against Elms this week, throwing six innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits with three strikeouts.

Paige Scheid, Albertus Magnus - Batted .524/.600/.619 and scored a run in all six contests. Also drove in two and stole five bases without being caught.

Mackenzie Briggs, Emmanuel - Earned a pair of wins in the circle this week, besting Simmons and New England College. Allowed just two earned runs in 14 1/3 innings to produced a 0.98 ERA for the week. Also struck out seven total batters in three appearances.

Taylor Chelak, Emmanuel - Hit safely in five of six contests with multiple hits in four. Slashed .478/.500/.783 with eight runs scored and two RBI. Had a home run against New England College.

Caroline Amorelli, Johnson & Wales - Hit safely in all six contests this week, including a pair of three-hit games. Scored four runs adn drove in nine with a .588/.600/.882 slash line.

Cassandra Roman, Mitchell - Had a strong final week of the regular season, slashing .526/.571/.895 for the week, while scoring five times and driving in four.

Olivia Couto, Rivier - Slashed .478/.500/.696 with multi-hit games in three of six contests. Also crossed the plate eight times and drove in six.
