GNAC Softball Athlete of the Week Report #5

PLAYER/ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Mel Rees, Regis (Fy., P/3B)

Regis first-year Mel Rees produced at the plate and in the circle for the Pride as her team swept Fisher in a doubleheader on Wednesday (March 27). At the plate, she went 6-for-7, including a 4-for-4 showing in game one. Among her six hits were a triple and a home run in each contest. She came around to score six times in the twin bill and also drove in six. Rees also picked up her first collegiate complete game victory in the late game as she went five innings, allowing just three hits an a walk, while striking out 10.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Sabrina Liston, Anna Maria (Gr., P)

Graduate student Sabrina Liston was perfect in game two of Anna Maria’s doubleheader against Dean on Wednesday (April 27). She retired all 15 batters she faced in a five-inning complete game as the AMCATS earned an 8-0 run-rule victory. Three of those outs came by way of the strikeout.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Shay Savoie, Anna Maria - Went 4-for-5 at the plate in a twin bill with Dean. Stole three bases in game one and hit a home run in game two. Scored four times in the doubleheader with one RBI.

Taylor Chelak, Emmanuel - Had three straight two-hit games in a 2-1 week for the Saints. Recorded two doubles, scored six times, and drove in one in the three contests. Batted .545/.545/.727 for the week.

Grace Giesler, New England College - Batted .429/.467/.571 this week as the Pilgrims played to a 3-1 record. Had seven RBI, scored four runs, and stole three bases across the four contests.

Mya Gaspie, Regis - Tossed a five-inning no-hitter in 20-0 victory over Fisher. Faced one batter over the minimum in the complete game victory with seven strikeouts.
