GNAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Report #7

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Owen Davis, Johnson & Wales (Jr., C)

Johnson & Wales junior Owen Davis hit safely in all five contests he played in this week, including four consecutive multi-hit games. He scored in every contest and had three runs in four of the five contests, giving him 13 runs scored on the week. He also produced some scoring with his bat as he recorded 12 RBI in the five contests. He batted .571/.577/.905 this week with a double and two home runs. He also walked three times. Davis opened the week with a perfect 7-for-7 showing in a GNAC doubleheader against Anna Maria before recording two hits apiece in both ends of a doubleheader against Dean. He conclude the week with a 1-for-4 showing against New England College.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Zachary Simone, Lasell (Gr., P)

Graduate student Zachary Simone tossed a seven-inning, complete game one-hitter on Saturday (April 13) as Lasell shutout Anna Maria, 17-0. Simone was perfect except for a double in the fourth inning, setting down 21 of the 22 batters he faced, including seven strikeouts.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Troy Piascik, Albertus Magnus (Fr., OF)

Freshman outfielder Troy Piascik had at least one hit in each of his four games this week, giving him a .529/.556/.941 slash line. Opened the week with back-to-back multi-hit games, starting with a 2-for-6 showing against Mount Saint Mary in which he doubled, homered, and drove in four runs. He followed that up with a 5-for-5 game against Saint Joseph's (Maine) that included three doubles. For the week he totaled five runs scored and four RBI.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Albert Molina, Albertus Magnus - Went the distance against Saint Joseph's (Maine), picking up a nine-inning complete game victory. Allowed just one run on six hits, while striking out six.

Shawn Smith, Albertus Magnus - Batted .643/.667/1.071 for the week, recording hits in all four contests for Albertus Magnus this week. He had multiple hits in three of the games and scored five runs with six RBI on the week. Recorded four extra-base hits, including three doubles and a home run.

Dylan Watson, Colby-Sawyer - Tossed eight innings of four-hit baseball, allowing one run in a victory over Norwich. Struck out six batters, while walking three.

Justin Markell, Johnson & Wales - Made three relief appearances for the Wildcats totaling 6 2/3 innings of work. Allowed just four hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Picked up the win against New England College on Sunday (April 14).

Cole Lalli, Mitchell - Batted .438/.500/1.063, including back-to-back three-hit games for Mitchell. Had seven runs and nine RBI on the week with five of his runs batted in coming in a 3-for-3 showing against Hartford in which he homered twice.

Camren Varney, Mitchell - Pitched six innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits and walking four in a winning effort over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). Struck out four batters in the outing. Also had a one inning relief stint earlier in the week in which he allowed one hit and struck out a batter.
