GNAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Report #2

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Josh Nohilly, Elms (Sr., 1B)

Elms senior Josh Nohilly tore the cover off the ball this week as the Blazers completed their spring trip in Florida. Nohilly produced a .611/.788/1.111 slash line in nine contests, reaching safely in all nine contests he played in, including hits in eight of the nine. Five of his eleven hits went for extra bases, including home runs in back-to-back games against Fitchburg State. In addition to reaching safely in every contest, the Bristol native was also a major run producer, either scoring or driving in a run in each game. In total, he had 14 runs and nine RBI on the week.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Nolan Mederos, Rivier (So., P)

Rivier right-hander Nolan Mederos went the distance for the Raiders as they shutout Wells 8-0 on Saturday (March 9). The nine-inning complete game shutout was the first for Rivier since 2014. In the outing, Mederos allowed just three hits and four walks, while striking out eight.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Dylan Young, Johnson & Wales (Fr., P/IF)

Freshman Dylan Young put together an impressive outing in his collegiate debut for Johnson & Wales. He tossed six innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits and two walks. He struck out three batters in the 10-1 victory.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Eric Galarza, Albertus Magnus - Produced a .500/.556/1.125 slash line in two contests for Albertus Magnus. Two of his four hits went for extra bases including a home run against King's. Scored three runs and also drove in three across the two games.

Matt Beuka, Anna Maria - Recorded hits in all, but one contest for Anna Maria. Scored eight runs and drove in five in seven games, while also stealing four bases.

Nick Choate, Anna Maria - Struckout 13 batters in five innings for Anna Maria in a 5-3 loss to Penn State-Abington.

Aidan Vining, Johnson & Wales - Earned the win of Johnson & Wales, going eight innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) against McDaniel. Struckout five McDaniel batters in the outing.

Jeremy Blackwood, Lasell - Earned the victory for Lasell with six-innings pitched, allowing just two runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks. Struckout three batters. 

Tim Callahan, Lasell - Batted .500/.533/.571 in four games for Lasell. Closed out the week with back-to-back three hit outings against Washington College. Recorded four RBI and two runs scored on the week.

Austin Hazzard, New England College - Pitched five shutout innings for New England College to earn the victory against Penn State-Berks. Allowed just five hits, three walks, and struck out 10 in the outing.

Brett Patnode, New England College - Recorded at least one hit and one walk in all four contests for New England College this week, producing a .545/.722/.727 slash line. Also scored three teams and drove in three.

Kyle Hsu, Rivier - Hit .429 with nine hits, four being extra base-hits, to drive in five runs and score five times. Recorded at least one hit in every contest and also walked three times and stole two bases.
