GNAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Report #5

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kosta Drosidis, Anna Maria (Gr., INF)

Graduate infielder Kosta Drosidis tore the cover off the ball this week, batting .765/.800/1.294, breaking the school record for career hits in the process. He had four straight multi-hit games this week, starting with a three-hit game against Fitchburg State. He followed that up with a 2-for-3 performance against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) before going 8-for-9 in a doubleheader against Dean. He had five extra-base hits this week, including home runs in both ends of the doubleheader with Dean. Drosidis had seven RBI on the week and scored eight runs. The AMCATS infielder also had a stolen base.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Nick Choate, Anna Maria (Jr., P)

Junior pitcher Nick Choate tossed seven shutout innings for Anna Maria this week to earn a 3-1 GNAC victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). He allowed just two hits and three walks in the contest and struck out 12 batters.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Michael Ficocelli, Mitchell (Fr., C/1B)

Mitchell freshman Michael Ficocelli played a major part in the Mariners’ 6-0 week, batting .364/.444/.727 for the week. He hit safely in all six contests, including two doubles and three triples. He had multi-hit games against New England College and Albertus Magnus and scored five times with eight RBI. Four of his RBI came in game two of doubleheader with the Falcons.  Ficocelli also reached via walk four times.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Elijah Spataj, Albertus Magnus - Batted .471/.500/.941 in four contests. Had his best game against Lasell, going 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, five RBI, and two runs scored. For the week scored five times and drove in eight.

Colby Arnold, Elms - Picked up the win, allowing just one run on two hits and a walk against Lesley. Struck out three batters in the 5-2 victory.

CJ Moriarty, Elms - Batted .471/.471/.529 with four straight two-hit games. Drove in six runs and scored once in four contests.

Trevor Juan, Johnson & Wales - Batted .429/.467/.500 across three games, all victories. Had two-hit games in all three contests, scored five times and drove in three runs.

Angel Galindez, Mitchell - Hit safely in six straight contests, including five two-hit showings. Drove in 10 runs and scored eight times across the six contests while batting .550/.667/.650.

Chris Gibbs, Mitchell - Allowed just one run in eight innings to earn the victory against Lasell. Allowed four hits and four walks, while striking out two.

Austin Hazzard, New England College - Pitched six shutout innings in a 4-1 win over Dean. Allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Brady Philibotte, New England College - Had hits in all four contests for New England College to put together a .462/.500/.538 slash line. Scored four times and drove in two in the four games.

Ethan Slowik, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Made two appearances, pitching a 12 total innings allowing just two runs (one earned). Pitched four innings of no-hit ball against Worcester State and allowed six hits and two walks over eight innings against Elms. Had 11 strikeouts on the week.
