GNAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Report #1

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Cooper O'Brien, Colby-Sawyer (Gr., OF)

Graduate student Cooper O'Brien started off the season strong for Colby-Sawyer as the Chargers swept a doubleheader against Mass. Maritime to open the season. He went 3-for-6 in the twin bill, including a home run in each contest. He also had a double, four runs scored, and three RBI. He also walked three times, contributing to his .500/.667/1.667 slash line.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Chris Gibbs, Mitchell (Jr., P)

Junior pitcher Chris Gibbs earned two victories for Mitchell to open the season. He threw nine innings over two contests, allowing just one earned run. First, against William Peace, he tossed four shutout innings, surrendering only three hits and striking out six. Upon the teams return home, Gibbs got the nod against Brandeis, pitching five innings and surrendering five hits and two runs (one earned) for the win. He also struck out two batters.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Chas Terni Jr., Mitchell (Fr., SS/3B)

Freshman Chas Terni Jr. opened his collegiate career on a four-game hitting streak, producing a .438/.471/.750 slash line. During Mitchell's season opening trip to William Peace, he collected four hits as the Mariners went 2-1 on the trip. In addition to hitting safely in each contest, Terni also scored at least one run in each game. He had one RBI against William Peace, coming the season opener. Terni's bat stayed hot upon his return to Mitchell, as he went 3-for-5 in the Mariners' home opener, including his first career home run, which put his team ahead en route to a 7-2 win over Brandeis. He had three RBI and two runs scored against the Judges, brining his total to seven runs scored and four runs driven in.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

AJ Cook, Elms - Batted .750 (6-for-8) in three set backs for Elms. Had a hit in all three contests, scored two runs, and drove in one.

Matthew Fletcher, Lasell - Threw 9 1/3 innings, including five shutout innings for a win against Fisher. Struck out nine ofver the two contests.

Owen Davis, Johnson & Wales - Went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and drove in four in a win over No. 12 Rowan.

Luis Colon, Rivier - Went 4-for-6 on the week, inclduing a 4-for-4 performance with one run batted in during game two of a seven-inning doubleheader.

Nolan Mederos, Rivier - Earned the victory for Rivier in its 3-1 win over Saint Elizabeth. Threw five innings of one-hit ball, walking four, and striking out five.

Jared Wilhelm, Saint Joseph's (Maine) - Went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, a triple, a stolen base, and an RBI in a 13-9 win at Bowdoin.

Ryan Shaw, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Had hits in four of the University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) five contests, including three multi-hit performaces. Also drove in four runs in the five games. Drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning agaisnt Keene State to give USJ its first-ever win.
