    The Suffolk University Athletic Department has announced that Steve Counihan will return as Head Coach for both Women’s and Men’s Tennis in 2009-2010. Counihan returns after leading Women’s Tennis to a 2007 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship.

  • LaRiviere Named Academic All-District

    Emmanuel College's senior cross country and track & field team captain Cathryn Lariviere (Windham, N.H.) was selected to The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1st Team. Lariviere's most recent honor was officially announced on June 4, 2009. The Academic All-District selections are nominated and voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The selections make up first and second teams from the college and university divisions of eight different districts nationwide. Lariviere was one of just ten women chosen from the college division in the New England/New York region of the country.

  • Mount Holyoke’s Miki Yoshida Selected to Represent GNAC on National SAAC

    Mount Holyoke College sophomore Miki Yoshida (Hong Kong, China/Hong Kong Int'l) has been named to the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Her term of service will begin immediately and continue through May 1, 2012. Yoshida will represent both the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

    The 2009 season will bring a lot changes to the Emmanuel College men’s soccer team. The Saints will finally be playing on their very own turf field, and they will be playing under the reign of head coach Colin Goin. After previous-head coach Julio Avila resigned, Goin, having assisted Avila the past two seasons, accepted the head coaching position at Emmanuel.

  • 503 Student-Athletes Named To GNAC Academic All-Conference Team

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 503 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. Second-year student-athletes from all 13 member institutions who hold a cumulative 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average for the 2008-2009 academic school year and are a member of a varsity team are eligible.
  • Ross Named To All-Region Team

    Emerson College lacrosse midfielder Maeghan Ross (So., Wrentham, Mass.) has been named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association Division III Pilgrim Region All-Region team. Ross, who was the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was a second team selection, and was the only GNAC Player named to either of the first two teams.

    Johnson & Wales senior Robert Newcomb (Quincy, Mass.) was named a 2009 Golf Coaches Association of America/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar, announced by the GCAA at the annual Division III National Awards dinner recently at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center.
  • Farago, Tuthill, and Leverone Named ECAC Softball All-Stars

    Three GNAC softball players have been selected as 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Softball All-Stars. Emerson junior outfielder Bridget Fargo was named to the ECAC First Team, while Emerson freshmen pitcher Kelsey Tuthill and St. Joseph’s (ME) first-year player Emily Leverone were selected to the Second Team.

  • Six GNAC Baseball Players Selected To NEIBA All-New England

    The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) has released its 2009 All-New England DIII Baseball teams and six Great Northeast Athletic Conference players have been honored. Saint Joseph’s junior Pat Moran ’10 (Winterport, ME) and Suffolk senior Tim Doyle (Milton, MA) both garnered first team honors as a designated hitter and pitcher, respectively. Earning third team honors for St. Joseph’s are junior first basemen Ben Grant-Roy (Biddeford, ME) and sophomore utility player Chris Campbell (Rochester, NH). Earning third team honors for Suffolk are junior catcher Bobby Barrett (Milton, MA) and senior pitcher Dan Delia (Boston, MA).
  • JWU Golf Wraps Up 2009 Campaign at NCAA Division III Championship

    The Johnson & Wales golf team finished the 2009 season with a 36th place finish at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship at the Dye Course of the PGA Golf Village last week. The course was a par 72 and measured 7,123 yards.
  • Jess Ferreira Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America

    Suffolk University Softball senior shortstop Jess Ferreira (Cambridge, MA) was named to the 2009 Lousiville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American. Ferreira was a third team selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). This marks the second time in her four-year career that Ferreira has received this honor, as she was also named an All-American in her freshman campaign in 2006.
  • Emerson Captures 2008-2009 Women's GNAC Commissioner's Cup

    Emerson College captures the 2008-2009 Women’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The Lions secured the Commissioner’s Cup by earning two championships this spring in softball and lacrosse, earning five points each. The women’s teams collected a total of 25 points in the standings.
  • Johnson & Wales Claims 2008-2009 Men's GNAC Commissioner's Cup

    Johnson & Wales University claims the 2008-2009 Men’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup. The Wildcats earned two points or more in every men’s sport offered by the GNAC. Johnson & Wales captured two GNAC championships in the fall, golf and cross-country, and earned five points for each towards the GNAC Commissioner Cup.
  • Gentile, Karl Named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District Teams

    Two Great Northeast Athletic Conference baseball student-athletes earned recognition for their performance in the classroom as well as the athletic field this spring. Suffolk junior outfielder Rory Gentile (Gloucester, MA) and Emerson junior outfielder Peter Karl (Wallingford, CT) were both named to ESPN the Magazine’s Academic All-District teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
  • 2009 Suffolk Baseball Season Comes to Close

    The 2009 baseball season for the Suffolk University (30-11) came to a close as the Rams took their second loss in the NCAA New England Regional Tournament. The Eastern Connnecticut State Warriors (36-7), who entered the tournament as the top seed and ranked third nationally, pounded the Rams 13-2 in the elimination game. EConn pounded out 16 hits, including their top two hitters going a combined 9-for-11 to cruise to the victory. The Rams scattered seven hits throughout the game but could not muster a big hit to keep them in the game as they left 10 runners on base. The Warriors spread the game open scoring twice in the sixth and added five runs in the seventh and did not look back.

    Three Great Northeast Athletic Conference softball student-athletes earned recognition for their performance in the classroom as well as the athletic field this spring. Emerson junior outfielder Bridget Farago (Oneonta, NY), Suffolk sophomore infielder Monica Cioffi (Easton Boston, MA), and St. Joe’s (ME) sophomore infielder Alyssa Dunn (Standish, ME) were both named to ESPN the Magazine’s Academic All-District teams by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
  • Rams Drop NCAA Opener

    The Suffolk University Baseball team (30-10) dropped the opener of the NCAA New England Regional Tournament, 7-6 to WPI (29-11) Wednesday morning. Junior Joe Walsh (Weymouth, MA) hit a check swing single over the first base bag in the eighth inning to knock in the go-ahead run as the Engineers squashed a late rally by the Rams to take the opener of the tournament.

  • Suffolk Baseball Set to Open Up NCAA Tournament Wednesday

    The Suffolk University Baseball team (30-9) will open up the NCAA New England Regional Tournament on Wednesday as they take on Worcester Polytech Institute (28-11). The Rams have been slotted with the # 5 seed in the tournament. Suffolk and WPI will open up the tournament as Game 1 on Wednesday morning at 10:00 am. Eastern Connecticut State University is hosting this year's New England Regional Tournament.
  • Emerson Falls Short on Third Day of NCAA Tournament Play

    Emerson College was eliminated on Saturday morning from the NCAA Regional Tournament action in Beverly, MA. The Lions fell to Tufts on Friday afternoon 3-1 in nine innings and were eliminated from the tournament on a 1-0 loss to Rhode Island College on Saturday morning. Emerson finishes the season with an overall record of 33-11.
