GNAC Swimming & Diving Report: Week 7

MEN'S ATHLETE/ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 

GianCarlos Banrey, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., Roslindale, Mass.)

Banrey enjoyed the best performance among Regis swimmers at the FIU Sprint Invitational Saturday. Competing against swimmers from Division I and Division II as well as Division III, Banrey finished second in the 50 butterfly. In the tournament-style event, he opened with a second-place finish in 23.81 seconds, followed by a third-place finish in the quarterfinal in 24.14 seconds. He advanced to the final thanks to a semifinal time of 23.62 seconds but lost in the head-to-head final to Lukas Wormald of the University of Waterloo (23.44 to 23.75 seconds).

 

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Sarah Leonard, Regis (Mass.) (Jr., Brockton, Mass.)

Leonard posted the highest placement among the Regis women at the FIU Sprint Invitational Saturday. She advanced past the first round in one of the tournament-style 50-yard events thanks to a sixth place finish in the 50 backstroke in a season-best time of 28.46 seconds. She was eliminated after the quarterfinal race after posting a time of 29.70 seconds. Leonard also competed against a stellar field in the 50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke.

 

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Megan Duffy, Norwich (Fr., Shelton, Conn.)

Duffy claimed first in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 33.63 in December 8th's home dual meet against Bentley University. She also won the 100 yard breaststroke.
