GNAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 5

( FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 23 - 29 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Olivia Cairrao, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., M - Bristol, R.I.)

Cairrao guided JWU to a 2-0 week by registering seven goals for 14 points against Albertus Magnus and Norwich to keep the Wildcats as the only team with a perfect GNAC record (3-0-0). Midweek, Cairrao scored five of the Wildcats six goals in a 6-3 victory over Albertus Magnus, as her 10 points against the Falcons Wednesday evening was the most points recorded against GNAC opponent in a single-game this season. Cairrao closed out the week on Saturday with a two-goal afternoon in a 6-1 victory over Norwich. Against the Cadets, she opened the scoring finding the back of the net in the 13th minute.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Lindsey Montminy, St. Joseph (Conn.) (So., GK - Vernon, Conn.)

Montminy stopped all 13 shots she faced en route to back-to-back 1-0 shutout victories over GNAC rivals Lasell and Colby-Sawyer last week. She opened the week with a stellar performance between the pipes on the road against GNAC power Lasell on Wednesday, matching her career-high of eight saves in the win. She followed that with five saves on Saturday for her third straight shutout at home versus Colby-Sawyer. Among the GNAC league leaders in multiple categories, she now has four shutouts on the year and a 7-1-0 record in goal, as the Blue Jays have started 8-1-0 for the first time since 2012.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Bobbi O'Guin, Lasell (Fr., M - Newton, Mass.)

O'Guin scored one goal and added two assists for four points in a 1-1 week for the Lasers. All of her points came Saturday in a 6-0 victory over GNAC foe Anna Maria, as she assisted on the first-half game-winner, scored Lasell's second goal early in the second half, and assisted on the third goal four minutes later.

WEEK 5 HONOR ROLL

Sophia Austin, Albertus Magnus (Jr., F - East Hartford, Conn.) - Austin led Albertus to a 1-1 week after registering a goal and three assists for five points. Early in the week, the junior forward picked up a season-high two assists in the 6-3 loss to Johnson & Wales. She concluded the week scoring a goal and tallying an assist in the 3-0 win at Rivier.

Sidney Eskildsen, Anna Maria (So., F - Murrieta, Calif.) - Eskildsen had a two-goal game against GNAC foe Suffolk in a 3-2 overtime loss. She found the back of the net off of a cross from teammate Sydney Owen for her first score. Her second came down 2-1 with less than a minute left when Meghan Marrone took a corner kick just high enough to make it over Ram defenders for the sophomore to head it perfectly into the net to force overtime.

Kennedy Davignon, Emmanuel (Mass.) (So, D - Woodstock, Conn.) - Davignon did it all for the Saints in a 2-1 victory over defending GNAC champion Saint Joseph's of Maine. After playing the first half in the back line holding the Monks scoreless, she moved up to forward to assist on Emmanuel's first score before netting the game-winner against the Monks to hand them their first GNAC loss. She returned to the back line vs. regional powerhouse Brandeis and held the Judges to just one goal, their lowest scoring output of the season in victory, in a respectable 1-0 loss to the UAA foes.

Lexi Gawron, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, GK - South Hadley, Mass.) - Gawron was strong in net for the Saints, posting nine saves over 180 minutes of work while registering an .818 save percentage. The senior picked up the win against defending GNAC champs Saint Joseph's before playing well in a losing effort to regional powerhouse Brandeis, making eight saves while allowing just one goal vs. the Judges for their lowest scoring output of the year outside of NESCAC opponents.

Alexis Vieira, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Fy., M - Warwick, R.I.) - Vieira was instrumental in guiding Johnson & Wales to a 2-0 week, which included conference victories over Albertus Magnus and Norwich. Over the course of the two-game week, Vieira registered three assists for three points. Early in the week against the Falcons, the Warwick, R.I. native connected with GNAC Player of the Week Olivia Cairrao in the 27th minute for the second Wildcat goal. Later in the week against the Cadets, Vieira contributed with a pair of assists on the fifth and sixth goals.

McKenzie Murphy, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, M - West Baldwin, Maine) - Murphy scored a pair of goals in the Monks' 4-1 victory at Simmons on Saturday as part of a 1-1 GNAC week.

Caleigh O'Brien, Suffolk (Jr., F - Wilbraham, Mass.) - O'Brien had an eight-point week in a 2-0 week for Suffolk. The junior forward put away one goal and handed out a personal-best two assists, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 OT triumph at Anna Maria before recording two goals (including the game-winner) in a 4-1 victory at Regis.

Allison Rodrigues, Suffolk (So., GK - North Andover, Mass.) - Rodrigues backstopped Suffolk to a 2-0 GNAC week. The first win came in overtime fashion with the sophomore keeper picking up six saves in nearly 93 minutes of (OT) action at Anna Maria, while the second outing – a 4-1 victory at Regis – saw Rodrigues match a career-high 10 stops in the triumph.
