GNAC Women's Soccer Report: Week 3

(FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 9 - 15)

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Katherine Raposo, Albertus Magnus (Jr., F - Warwick, R.I.)

Raposo enjoyed a 12-point week for the Falcons, scoring five goals to go along with two assists. The junior scored in two of the three games and recorded her second hat trick of the season in the Falcons' 11-1 win over Northern Vermont-Lyndon. Raposo powered the Falcons to a 3-0 win against Bay Path behind a pair of goals and an assist and also tallied an assist in the 2-1 loss to Lasell. 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Allison Rodrigues, Suffolk (So., GK - North Andover, Mass. , 1)

Rodrigues backstopped Suffolk to a pair of shutout victories, first a 10-0 trouncing at Mass. Maritime, before a 2-0 cleansheet in the GNAC opener against Simmons. The shutouts are the sophomores second and third, respectively, of the season bringing her career total to seven. Her four-save effort against the Buccaneers prepped her for the conference opener, which saw the net minder stop all six shots she faced to help the Rams begin league action in the win column for the second time in program history, first since 2016. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Aria Ulmer, Regis (Mass.) (Fr., M - Henniker, N.H., 10)

Ulmer has started the last four matches in a row for the Pride, including both contests over the weekend. She took one shot against Colby-Sawyer Saturday as Regis earned a 2-1 overtime victory. Sunday, she scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute against Curry, collecting the ball after a scramble in front of the net and sending it over the goal line for her first career collegiate goal. Ulmer has been a steady presence for the Pride in the middle of the field through the first five matches. 


WEEK 3 HONOR ROLL

Cassidy Scofield, Albertus Magnus (Sr., GK - Shelton, Conn.) - In a 2-1 week for the Falcons, Scofield recorded a 0.80 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage behind 16 saves over 225 minutes of play.. She made four saves in net and earned a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Bay Path before stopping a season-high 11 saves in the 2-1 loss to Lasell. Scofield ended the week tallying a save in the Falcons' 11-1 win over Northern Vermont-Lyndon.

Madison Oelker, Norwich (Sr., M - West Liberty, Ohio) - Oelker scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute to lift Norwich to a huge 1-0 victory over USJ and hand the Blue Jays their first loss of the 2019 season. 

Victoria Patriarca, Johnson & Wales (RI) (So., F - Burrillville, R.I.) - Just over a minute in the second overtime period against non-conference Eastern Connecticut State, the sophomore forward delivered JWU its first win by connecting on a double-overtime game-winner, chipping in a pass from teammate Jordan Restivo from across the middle for her second goal of the season. 

Jaida Mitchell, Rivier (So, F - Raymond, NH) - Mitchell scored once in each game last week, a 1-1 tie against ENC before scoring the game-winning goal against Mass Maritime in a 5-1 win.

Kaylee Francis, Regis (Mass.) (So., F - Millis, Mass.) - Francis scored a goal in each of Regis' victories over the weekend. In the 12th minute of Saturday's match against Colby-Sawyer, Francis raced up the field and beat the Charger goalie to put the Pride on the board. Right off the kickoff Sunday, Francis gained possession of the ball and found Brianna Gaynor down the left side, leading to the first goal against Curry. After the Colonels tied the match, Francis created her own scoring opportunity in the 27th minute and converted to put Regis back on top, 2-1. Francis leads the team in scoring with three goals and four assists for 10 total points.

McKenzie Murphy, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Junior, M - West Baldwin, Maine) - Murphy scored two goals with an assist in a 3-0 week for Saint Joe's. She scored once in a 3-2 home win over Southern Maine, assisted once at Anna Maria in a 3-1 victory, and also scored in a 4-1 road win over UMaine Farmington.
