GNAC Women's Lacrosse Report: Week 2

( FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 2 - 8 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kerri Anselmo, Regis (Mass.) (Sr., A - Natick, Mass.)

Anselmo led Regis to victories on consecutive days to open the 2020 season, totalling 11 goals and five assists for 16 points to go with eight ground balls, 16 draw controls, and four caused turnovers. She started the season in a big way Thursday at Fitchburg State, scoring a career-high seven goals, including a 4-for-5 performance in free position attempts, plus she dished out four assists to finish with 11 points, tying her career high in that category. On Friday at Thomas College, she scored four goals, earned 10 draw controls, and picked up five ground balls in the Pride's 15-4 victory. 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Madelyn Nelson, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (SO, G - Casco, Maine)

Nelson posted a 7.20 goals against average with a .600 save percentage in three SJC victories last week. The sophomore netminder essentially carried the Monks to a 10-8 victory over rival Southern Maine on Saturday by making 16 saves and added nine stops in an 11-8 triumph over UMaine-Farmington on Sunday.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Lauren Whitman, Simmons (First Year, A/M - Mansfield, Mass.)

The first-year scored four or more goals in both games to tally 11 goals to go with five ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers as the Sharks went 2-0. The attacker scored four goals and added two draw controls on March 2 versus UMass Dartmouth. She capped the week by tying the school's rookie record for goals in a game with seven in addition to picking up five ground balls, winning three draw controls and causing three turnovers versus Clark on Friday.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Korina Zelaya, Albertus Magnus (Sr., A - Trumbull, Conn.) - Zelaya tallied a team-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead Albertus to a season-opening 16-15 victory over Elms on Wednesday. The senior midfielder also added six ground balls and three caused turnovers to her stellar stat line. 

Ashley Rufo, Anna Maria (So., M - Pittsfield, Mass.) - Rufo had a stellar week for the AMCATS as she helped the squad go 2-0, which included the team's first win since 2012. Against Dean, she put on a career performance when she tallied eight goals which are tied for the most goals scored in a single game in program history. Rufo continued her strong week when she collected four goals against Mitchell nd now leads the team with 12 goals on the season. 

Sarah Morin, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, F - Pelham, N.H.) - Morin led the Chargers with 11 points on 10 goals and 1 assist in a 1-1 week. She added four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Morin began the week with six goals, including the game-winner, and an assist in a 19-9 win at Castleton. The victory was the first against the Spartans since 2008. The junior ended the week with a team best four-goal effort in a GNAC season opening loss at Lasell. 

Dani Lydecker, Johnson & Wales (RI) (Jr., A - Valley Cottage, N.Y.) - Tied a career-high with six goals in a 23-13 setback at Framingham State ... Also picked up three ground balls and won four draw controls.

Jordan McComb, Lasell (Sr., M - Cumberland, R.I.) - McComb recorded 15 points in a pair of victories (1-0 GNAC) on 12 goals and three assists, while also collecting eight draw controls, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. She tallied four goals and three assists with two ground balls and a caused turnover Tuesday in the season-opening win over Gordon College, and she scored eight goals, second-most in a game in her career, in a GNAC win Saturday over Colby-Sawyer College while also grabbing eight draw controls and four ground balls and causing two turnovers.

Makenzie Dinger, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., A/M - Hingham, Mass.) - Dinger had four goals and four assists for eight points in USJ's 17-2 win over Bay Path.

Maddy Beaulieu, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (SR, A - West Gardiner, Maine) - Beaulieu had a monster week in leading the Monks to three victories as the senior attack netted five goals with 15 assists for 20 total points in the three triumphs. In a 15-4 win over Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday Beaulieu recorded 10 points, including a program single-game record eight assists, and chipped in three goals with two assists in a 10-8 victory over rival Southern Maine on Saturday. The capped the week by dealing five assists in an 11-8 win over UMaine-Farmington on Sunday.
