GNAC Women's Lacrosse Report: Week 1

( FOR THE SEASON'S OPENING PERIOD )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kylie Rice, Emmanuel (Mass.) (Sr, A - Bethlehem, Conn.)

Rice opened the 2020 campaign with a seven-point outing in Emmanuel's 17-9 victory over Wentworth. The senior captain scored a game-high five goals including the game-winner while adding two assists. The Connecticut native also grabbed three groundballs and caused three turnovers in the EC victory.

 

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Nicole Elliott, Simmons (Sophomore, G - Wayne, N.J.)

In the Sharks' only match of the week, the sophomore was outstanding in her Simmons debut. Elliott stopped 16 of 23 shots to register a .696 save percentage in the team's 14-7 victory at Salve Regina on February 29. Her 16 saves were the most of any goalie in their Sharks debut in school history and her total marked the most of any Simmons goalie in a win or a season opener since March 1, 2014. Elliott allowed just seven goals, including only two in the first half against 12 first half stops.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Emily Boedeker, Simmons (Fr, M/D - Portland, Maine)

In the Sharks only match of the week, the first year scored four goals on four shots to help Simmons to a 14-7 victory at Salve Regina University on February 29. The midfielder established a school record for most goals by a newcomer in their Simmons debut.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Kailyn Lapham, Colby-Sawyer (Sr, G - Medway, Mass.) - Lapham was outstanding in the Chargers' lone game last week. She helped the team to a 13-6 road win at Salem State with 14 saves. She now has 21 career victories to rank tied for second with Sarah Cook '05 on the all-time list.

Jess Tattersall, Colby-Sawyer (Jr, C - Keene, N.H.) - Tattersall led the Chargers to a 13-6 season opening road win at Salem State in the team's lone game last week. The junior scored a game-high four goals and added three draw controls and a couple of ground balls. 

Allison Sturgeon, Norwich (Fr., M - Monticello, Ind.) - In her collegiate debut, Sturgeon left her mark scoring a hat trick of 50 percent shooting in a close loss to Castleton. The freshman midfielder scored her first collegiate goal just over a minute into the contest. She also earned five draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Molly Reinhold, Simmons (Junior, M - Mystic, Conn.) - In the Sharks only match of the week, the junior tallied six points on four goals and two assists in addition to three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls in a 14-7 victory at Salve Regina University on February 29.

Logan Champlin, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (SO, M - Alfred, Maine) - Champlin kicked off her sophomore season with three goals, two assists, five ground balls, five caused turnovers, and four draw controls in a 9-7 victory over Husson on February 28. She closed out the week with a goal, four ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers in a loss at UNE on Sunday.
