GNAC Men's Tennis Report: Week 1

( FOR THE WEEK OF FEB. 23 - MARCH 10 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Alexi Gilmore, Norwich  (So. - Haverhill, Mass.)

Gilmore went 3-1 at No. 2 singles over the past two weeks and has been a large part of the Cadets' current three-game winning streak. He has also posted a 2-2 record at No. 1 doubles with Sam Beiter. He has only lost seven games in his last three singles matches and hasn't dropped any sets.  

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Tim Santy, Norwich (Fr. - San Antonio, Texas)

Santy went 1-1 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to start his collegiate career. He also is 1-1 split between No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Santy won No. 5 singles vs. Castleton 6-2, 6-0. He also teamed with Abbie Barker to take No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-1. .


WEEK 1 HONOR ROLL

Evan Russell, Regis (Mass.) (Jr. - East Wareham, Mass.) - Russell was the only Regis player to win multiple singles matches during the team's trip to Florida last week. In the Pride's 8-1 victory over King's College, he played at number four singles and won his match in straight sets (6-2, 6-3). Against Concordia College (Minn.), he played at number six singles and again earned a straight-set victory (6-4, 7-6 {8-6}). He improved his 2018-19 record to 4-2 as the Pride return to New England to continue the spring schedule.

Shariq Khan, Rutgers University-Camden (So. - Atlantic City, N.J.) - Posted two wins in Rutgers-Camden's season-opening 5-4 loss against Neumann University on Saturday. Won at fifth singles, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9, and teamed with Vincent Flores at third doubles for an 8-6 victory
