BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Rene Roggenbuck hit down 13 kills for the University of New England women's volleyball team in a 3-0 triumph (25-16, 25-22, 25-11) over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday evening (Oct. 11) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Nor'easters (7-13) never trailed in the opening set, and closed with a 10-2 run to get out in front. The Monks (6-13) grabbed an early edge in the 2nd and maintained a 20-14 advantage down the stretch, but UNE registered the final eight points of the session to rally for a commanding lead. The hosts saw a quick 6-1 start in the 3rd reduced to just one (8-7) before pulling away to victory.
Roggenbuck posted a .481 attack percentage without any errors on her way to 17.5 points for UNE, which received 28 assists out of Sydney Christiansen. Molly Camelo added a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs, while Katie Flynntossed in another seven winners to go with a team-best 12 digs. Defensively, Katie Marsh and Paige Simoneau both contributed 11 digs. Marsh also recorded three points on service aces.
The visiting squad got 10 kills and 10 digs from Kelsey Bickford, and Sarah Dyer framed 14 assists while notching 13 digs. Jennelle Thompson kept St. Joe's in some lengthy plays with a match-high 21 digs, and Sophia Randall saved 11 more.
Saint Joseph's is back in action on Saturday with a 12:00 PM Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Colby-Sawyer College.
The Nor'easters will be at Wheaton College (Mass.) for a tri-match with and Lyons and Western New England University on Saturday (1 p.m. & 3 p.m.).
