NEWPORT, R.I. - Freshman Jeffrey L'Heureux (Litchfield, N.H.) recorded a shutout in his first collegiate start in net to help lift the Salve Regina University men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Johnson & Wales University on Monday evening at Reynolds Field. The Seahawks are now a perfect 6-0-0 on the season, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 3-2-1 overall.

L'Heureux made three saves while also breaking up several passes in the box to earn the victory in goal, while the Seahawks received an own goal by the Wildcats for the only score of the game.

The match remained scoreless until the 30th minute of play when Devin L'Heureux (Litchfield, N.H.) sent a pass across the goal. A Wildcat defender did his best to break up the pass and incidently knocked it into his own net to put the Seahawks ahead 1-0.

The Wildcats nearly tied the score in the 62nd minute when senior Patrick Nally (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) hit a shot from point blank range which appeared destined for the back of the net. However, sophomore back Evan Thomas (Mohnton, Pa.) was there to make the save for Salve Regina and clear the ball out of the box.

The Seahawks almost put the game away several times late in the second half, including a shot from senior Bobby Ernst (Needham, Mass.) which barely sailed wide in the 78th minute, and a blast from L'Heureux in the 81st minute which was saved by a nice effort by JWU goalkeeper Austin Scoggin (Mattituck, N.Y.).

Regardless, the Salve Regina defense was able to hold the one goal lead and run out the clock for the 1-0 victory.

Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday, as the Wildcats host Elms at 5 p.m., and the Seahawks hit the road to battle UMass.-Dartmouth at 4:30 p.m.
