GNAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Report #7

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sydney Gonyea, Simmons (Jr., F)

Junior forward Sydney Gonyea put on an offensive clinic for Simmons last week. She netted a hat trick and notched three assists, giving her nine points in a 11-0 victory over Elms on Tuesday (Oct. 10). Then on Saturday (Oct. 14), Gonyea went for another hat trick, while assisting twice in a 10-0 victory over Regis. Her explosive offensive performance gave her 17 points on the week. She currently leads the GNAC in assists with 13.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Makenzie Anderson, New England College (So., GK)

Sophomore goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson made a huge impact for New England College at the cage in a 2-1 week. Anderson made 20 saves throughout the week, including 12 in an shutout overtime victory over Johnson & Wales on Tuesday (Oct. 10). She also registered another shutout in a 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday (Oct. 14). She currently leads the GNAC in shutouts with four.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ava Kahl, Simmons (Fr., M)

First-year midfielder Ava Kahl had a productive week offensively for the Sharks. On Tuesday (Oct. 10), she scored twice in a 11-0 victory over Elms. Then, she found the back of the cage once more in a 10-0 victory over Regis on Saturday (Oct. 14), giving her six points on the week. 


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Sophia Brea, Johnson & Wales - Registered seven saves for the Wildcats in a 1-1 week. 

Drea Chin, New England College - Notched seven points for the Pilgrims from three goals and an assist in a 2-1 week.

Kylie Coupal, Rivier - Collected 20 saves and posted a record of 2-1 for the Raiders. 

Reilly Swislosky, Rivier - Scored a hat trick for the six points in a 4-3 victory over Colby Sawyer on Tuesday (Oct. 10).

Sam Buck, Simmons - Recorded two shutout victories for the Sharks this week.

Maya Tomko, University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) - Scored three goals for six points in a 1-1 week.
