GNAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Report #5

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sheridan Blaha, Lasell (Sr., F)

Senior forward Sheridan Blaha led Lasell to a 2-0 week. On Tuesday (Sept. 26), Blaha scored and assisted once against UMass Dartmouth, with her goal being the game-winner of the contest. Then on Saturday (Sept. 30), she found the back of the cage once again in a conference battle against Simmons. Blaha is currently tied in third place for both goals and points in the conference.

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Courtney Tello, Lasell (Jr., GK)

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Tello continued her stellar goalkeeping for the Lasers this week. Tello shut down her opponents for three quarters of action on Tuesday (Sept. 26), while recording two saves. Then, on Saturday (Sept. 30), she made five saves for the Lasers despite giving up one goal in their conference victory over Simmons. She is currently second in the conference in save percentage at .886.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Maddy Gootjes, Albertus Magnus (Fr., D)

First-year defender Maddy Gootjes displayed her offensive skills for Albertus Magnus this week. Gootjes scored her first career goals for the Falcons with two on Wednesday (Sept. 27). Then, she netted another pair of goals on Saturday (Sept. 30) and gave Albertus Magnus their first victory of the season. The freshman defender became the first player in the program's history to have back-to-back multi-goal games.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

Samantha Helwig, Albertus Magnus - Made 12 saves for the Falcons while earning her first career win in a 1-1 week.

Aleah Murph, Colby-Sawyer - Scored twice and assisted once, while also making two defensive saves for the Chargers in a 1-1 week.

Izzy Ward, Johnson & Wales - Collected five points for the Wildcats, registering two goals and an assist in their only game this week in a 3-0 victory on Saturday (Sept. 30) over Saint Joseph's (Maine).

Makenzie Anderson, New England College - Registered 27 saves at the cage for the Pilgrims in a 1-2 week.

Kylie Coupal, Rivier - Converted on 19 saves, while only allowing three goals for the Raiders in a 1-1 week.

Kayla Miles, Rivier - Registered eight points for the Raiders from three goals and two assists in a 1-1 week.

Anna Tedeschi, Simmons - Collected six points for the Sharks on three goals in a 2-1 week.
