GNAC Women's Volleyball Athlete of the Week Report #2

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Peyton Oliver, Johnson & Wales (Sr., OH)

Senior Peyton Oliver continued her strong play this week averaging 4.82 kills and 3.00 digs per set as Johnson & Wales went 1-2. The Wildcat victory came in four sets against Baruch on Saturday (Sept. 9). Oliver had 23 kills in the match and hit at a .296 clip. She also had 15 digs, giving her one of her two double-doubles on the week. The senior hitter also had seven aces, two assists, and two blocks in the match. She had her second double-double of the day in a four-set loss to Wesleyan. Oliver once again collected 23 kills, this time adding 11 pickups. For the week, she averaged 5.5 points per set.

SETTER OF THE WEEK

Ahnasia Mckinney, Regis (Sr., S)

Senior Ahnasia Mckinney averaged 5.93 assists per set this week as Regis went 1-3 against a slew of difficult opponents. She opened the week with an impressive 36 assists in a five-set defeat at the hands of WPI on Tuesday (Sept. 5). She also added 10 digs to give her a double-double. She went on the attack on Thursday (Sept. 7) against Plymouth State putting down seven kills and hitting at a .500 clip. She also posted 12 helpers against the Panthers. The one victory for the Pride came in a tri-match with Suffolk and UMass Dartmouth. Against the Rams, Mckinney had 16 more assists to go along with seven kills and nine digs as the Pride swept Suffolk, 3-0. She concluded the week with 19 assists in a three-set loss to the Corsairs. Mckinney also had at least one block in each match.

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Amanda Zdru, Albertus Magnus (Sr., L)

Senior libero Amanda Zdru opened the week with a pair of double-digit dig performances for Albertus Magnus, contributing to her 4.56 digs per set average for the week. First, against Purchase on Thursday (Sept. 7), she had 16 pickups, plus an assist and an ace, as the Falcons earned a 3-0 victory. She then had her best match of the week against Curry on Saturday (Sept. 9), as she collected 20 digs and a career-high four service aces. She concluded the week with five digs against Saint Joseph’s (Long Island).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Michela Voit, Johnson & Wales (Fr., S)

Freshman setter Michaela Voit had double-digit assist numbers in all three matches for Johnson & Wales this week. She started with 11 helpers in a three-set loss to Emerson before compiling back-to-back 30-plus assist performances on Saturday (Sept. 9). She had 35 in a four-set win over Baruch to start the day before tallying 30 in a four-set loss to Wesleyan in the late match. Voit also collected 12 digs, three kills, and two aces for the week. She averaged 6.91 assists per set.


WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

McKenna McCool, Lasell - Averaged 3.05 kills per set this week as the Lasers went 4-1 in non-conference play. Had three double-digit kill performances, peaking at 21 in a three-setter agaisnt Redlands. Also had three multi-block matches and collected at least on rejection per match.

Bliss Brown, Mitchell - Reached double-digit assists and double-digit digs in two of the three matches for the Mariners on the week. Registered a double-double with 29 assists and 14 digs in five set loss at Rhode Island College. Recorded a triple-double with 15 kills, 18 assists, and 19 digs in five set loss against Worcester State. Averaged 4.15 assists per set and 3.15 digs per set across three games.

Julia Lent, Mitchell - Tallied 58 digs across three games for Mitchell. Averaged 4.46 digs per set and tallied over 20 digs in two of the three matches.

Kamdyn Tenorio, Regis - Notched a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs, plus she earned two service aces against WPI on Tuseday. Came close to another double-double Thursday against Plymouth State with nine kills and 10 digs. Collected nine kills and seven digs against Suffolk, plus she did not make a reception error in 13 chances. She earned 11 digs against UMass Dartmouth later Saturday.

Ryan Hicks, Rivier - Dished out 25 assists (6.25 per set) in a 3-1 victory over Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon. Hicks' setting efforts helped the team hit at a .217 percentage on the day. Also tacked on two aces, three kills, and seven digs in the triumph.

Chelsea Simmons, Simmons - Posted a .424 attack percentage and guided the Sharks to a 2-1 week. Notched a single-game best 12 kills on 26 attempts to match four total blocks (1 solo, 3 assisted) against Endicott early in the week. Late in the week in a 3-0 win over Bay Path, tied her single-game best notching 12 kills, while also coming two assists (8) and three digs (7) shy of posting her second triple-double of the season.
