JWU Women's Volleyball Opens NCAA Tournament with 3-0 Sweep of Elms

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The NCAA Tournament drought is over for the Johnson & Wales University women's volleyball team. The top seed in the Providence Regional, the eighth-ranked Wildcats defeated Elms 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-12), on Friday for the first NCAA victory in program history.

Records:
Elms: 19-10
Johnson & Wales: 33-0

Statistical Leaders:
Hannah Dolan (JWU): 11 kills, .769 hitting %
Brylee Frank (JWU): 32 assists, 4 digs
Danielle Redding (ELMS): 10 kills, 8 digs

Of Note
With the victory, Johnson & Wales improved its home-court winning streak to 40 matches, tying Bowdoin for the ninth-longest streak in NCAA history.

The top hitting team in the country was running at full bore with a rate of .521 while limiting the Blazers to .037. Johnson & Wales also produced a 38-23 advantage in digs to go along with nine aces.

Setter Brylee Frank (Palm City, Fla.) had the offense humming, handing out 32 assists with five different players notching five or more kills. Leading the offense was rookie Hannah Dolan (San Clemente, Calif.) with 11 kills while hitting .769. Sophomore Elizabeth Hamilton (Canton, Mass.) was next with eight kills. Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, NY) topped all players with nine digs.

Leading the Blazers was Danielle Redding with 10 kills. She just missed a double-double with a team-best eight digs.

Next Game:
The Wildcats advance to the regional semifinals to take on the number four seed Wesleyan at 5 p.m. on Saturday. JWU defeated the Cardinals, 3-1, on October. 19.
