Norwich Repeats as GNAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Champions

WORCESTER, Mass. – Norwich finished up the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship on Sunday (Feb. 4) with 894.5 points to repeat as GNAC Champions.

Sunday’s final day of the three-day championship featured the final seven events of this year’s title chase.

The Cadets secured three more individual titles on the final day of the event, starting with Brandy Lewis’ victory in the 1650 freestyle. She finished with a time of 18:33.74. Freshman Kylie Farris also earned an individual championship as she won the 100 backstroke title with a time of 1:03.67. Hannah Shaner won the last individual title for the Cadets, winning the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:21.34.

This year’s GNAC Championship runner-up, Simmons also won two events on Sunday. Carli Quinlan was involved in both, winning the 100 freestyle at 53.50 and as part of the 400 medley relay. She teamed up with Camelia Hannah, Katelyn Quinlan, and Kenzie Lowry for a time of 4:15.64.

The final two individual champions on the final day of the event were Berkley Hutchins from Saint Joseph’s (Maine), who won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 31.84 and DeAngela Fobbs from Elms, who captured the 200 butterfly title, clocking in at 2:23.36.

The Sharks collected 781 points for their second place finish with Saint Joseph’s (Maine) taking third with 553. Regis and Elms closed out the top-five with 509.5 and 440 points, respectively. Closing out the standings were the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) with 402.5 points, Albertus Magnus with 173.5, and Colby-Sawyer with 172.

The 2024 GNAC Women’s Swimming & Diving major award winners were also recognized at the end of the meet. Simmons’ Carli Quinlan was voted Swimmer of the Year, while Norwich diver Reilly Laitala took home Diver of the Year honors. Two first-year student-athletes were recognized as Rookies of the Year with Saint Joseph’s (Maine) Hutchins and Colby-Sawyer’s Rebecca Radonovich both being honored.

Meanwhile, Regis head coach Diana Matthews was voted the Coach of the Year and her team also won the Institutional Sportsmanship award.

The top three finishers in each event were also recognized as the 2024 All-Conference honorees. The full list is included below.
