Road Teams Prevail in GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Tournament Play-In Round

GNAC WOMEN’S LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

WINTHROP, Mass. – No. 5 North seed Norwich and No. 5 South seed Lasell played spoiler on Thursday (April 25) evening in the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Lacrosse Championship Play-In Round as both picked up victories on the road. They join the other six GNAC Tournament teams in the quarterfinals on Saturday, April 27.

Both games were extremely close with the Cadets holding off a comeback attempt from No. 4 North seed Simmons to claim a 10-8 result and the Lasers taking No. 4 South seed Elms to overtime to steal the 9-8 result.

With Thursday’s wins, the Play-In Round winners advance to take on the two No. 1 seeds in the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals feature interdivision matchups, meaning No. 1 North seed Emmanuel will host Lasell at noon and No. 1 South seed Johnson & Wales will welcome Norwich with the star time still to be determined.

The other two quarterfinals have No. 3 North seed Colby-Sawyer visiting No. 2 South seed University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) at noon and No. 3 South seed Regis traveling to No. 2 North seed Saint Joseph’s (Maine) at 1 p.m.

The quarterfinal winners will advance to the GNAC Semifinals, which are scheduled for Tuesday, April 30. The Emmanuel-Lasell and the USJ-Colby-Sawyer winners will match up in one semifinal with the victor from JWU-Norwich game facing the winner of the SJC-Regis matchup.

The two semifinal winners will then compete for the conference title on Saturday, May 4 with the winner being crowned 2024 GNAC Women’s Lacrosse Champion and earning the league’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
