GNAC Women's Lacrosse Report: Week 1

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lydia Dexter, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (GR, A - Oakland, Maine) - Dexter tallied nine goals, six assists, nine ground balls, and four draw controls in the Monks' first two games of the season. The graduate attack netted seven goals with an assist and six ground balls in a 17-5 win over Gordon College on February 25th and added two goals and five assists in a 13-5 victory over University of Southern Maine on March 1st.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Colleen Stringer, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Fr., GK - Point Lookout, N.Y.) - Stringer was impressive in her collegiate debut between the pipes for the Blue Jays, making 10 saves against 18 shots on goal (55.6%), and earned the win in USJ 2023 season opener as the Blue Jays defeated non-conference opponent Castleton University, 21-9, in their lone game of the week at home last Wednesday night. The rookie made three saves in the first quarter, three more in the second, two in the third, and two more in the fourth over 53 minutes of action in goal.

HONOR ROLL 

Maddie Etherton, Norwich (Sr., A/M - Johnstown, N.Y.) - Etherton posted two goals apiece in a pair of games this past week, first scoring two of Norwich's three goals against perennial powerhouse Plattsburgh State on two shots on goal. The senior followed that up with two goals, including the final score, in a 12-8 win at New England College. Etherton tallied five ground balls and five draw controls, while converting four goals on just nine shots, with six coming on goal.
 
Makenzie Dinger, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., A/M - Hingham, Mass.) - Dinger picked up right where she left off from the 2022 campaign and erupted in the Blue Jays' 2023 season opener, netting a whopping 10 goals, including her 100th career goal, in a 21-9 triumph over non-conference opponent Castleton University at home in USJ's lone game of the week last Wednesday night. After a breakout 2022 season which saw Dinger pot 84 goals, the senior entered the 2023 slate with 99 career goals and she wasted little time etching her name in the USJ record book, finding the back of the net 4:10 into the match against the Spartans for the 100th of her career. The Hingham, Mass. native went on to add another marker in the first quarter, two in the second quarter, two in the third quarter and four more in the fourth quarter to match her career-high mark of 10 goals in a single game. She also picked up a game-high 10 ground balls and added a pair of draw controls.
