EWING, N.J. – The Lasell women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on the campus of The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. The Lasers fell to the Golden Eagles of Saint Joseph's College (L.I.), 8-6, and conclude the 2016 season at 13-7 overall. The Golden Eagles, now 14-6, will face the Lions tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for the second round of the tournament.

Sophomore Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.) led the Lasers' attack with four goals for 10 season hat tricks in 19 games played. Yandow grabbed a team-high four ground balls, whileBridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) scooped up three ground balls with three draw controls. Senior Ashlee Pechulis (Westfield, Mass.) and junior Danielle Chambrelli (Cheshire, Conn.) tossed in a goal apiece in the effort, with Pechulis leading defensively on two caused turnovers, joined by sophomore Taylor Falco (Hazlet, N.J.).

St. Joseph's leading scorer Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y.) added three goals and a game-high five draw controls, while Kristen Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y.) and Tricia Barrett (Holbrook, N.Y.) added a pair of markers apiece.

Golden Eagles' sophomore Shirley (N.Y.) took the opening draw in the contest where St. Joe's attempted an early offensive execution, but the Lasers' defense held strong before junior Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) denied the eventual shot. Yandow scooped up the ground ball rebound on a blocked shot by St. Joe's, and went the distance for the contest's opening tally. A strong performance in the cage on both ends halted the scoring for the following nine minutes, as freshman keeper Lindsay Ramos (Farmingdale, N.Y.) stopped seven Lasell shots in the frame. On Ramos' final save in the fragment, the Golden Eagles capitalized on a cleared transition with a goal from Barrett, before Ferchland gave St. Joe's a 3-1 lead with 9:52 to go in the first stanza.

The Lasers switched gears and scored three unanswered goals to close the first half on top, 4-3, via Yandow, Pechulis, and Chambrelli. The Lasers held the advantage in shots (11-9) and ground balls (13-7), while the Golden Eagles led in draws (5-3) and converted on 8-of-8 transition attempts in the opening 30.

After Yandow's free position goal to close the half, the Golden Eagles kept the Lasers at bay and scored four straight goals to climb back on top 7-4. Yandow score back-to-back goals for the Lasers, once on the man-up opportunity to pull within one, but Ferchland kept the two-goal gap intact with her third and final marker of the game. The Golden Eagles remained composed and stalled on offense in the final five, while Ramos saved the Lasers' lone shot to frame for the 8-6 final.

Ramos concluded the contest with 10 saves and lives to see another game at 14-4 overall, while Delaney finishes a successful season at 7-3 for the Lasers.
