Simmons' Scholand Competes in Three Events at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Junior Aine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) placed ninth for the Simmons University women's swimming & diving team in the 1650-yard freestyle on Saturday evening at the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Scholand turned in a time of 17:01.44 to finish just ahead of New York University junior Jaime Robinson, who clocked in at 17:01.66. The Shark was just over a second out of the eighth spot, held by sophomore Lydia Dacorte of Wheaton College (Mass.). with a mark of 17:00.61. 

Scholand scored nine points in the event to contribute to Simmons 34th-place finish as a team for the Championships to conclude its season.

On Thursday morning, Scholand finished 34th in the 200-yard freestyle preliminary heat on Day Two of 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. Scholand touched the wall with a season-best time of 1:53.73 to finish more than a quarter second faster than junior Kelly Davey of State University of New York Cortland.

On Wednesday, the junior placed 29th in the 500-yard freestyle preliminary at NCAAs down in Greensboro. Scholand turned in a time of 5:01.97 to edge first year Anna Pilecky of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point by almost a second in the morning prelims. Scholand's entry in the 500-yard freestyle marks the second straight year she has competed in the NCAA Championship in the event.
