GNAC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
WINTHROP, Mass. – Inclement weather disrupted day one of the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Championship Tournament, requiring some rescheduling.
Day one of the entire Saint Joseph's (Maine) Pod was postponed to Friday, May 3, while only the first game was completed in the Lasell Pod. The second game at Lasell was played, but was halted in the 10th inning due to lightning.
In the lone completed game, No. 1 South seed Lasell defeated No. 4 South seed Albertus Magnus, 3-2. In the late game in the Lasell Pod, No. 2 North seed Emmanuel and No. 3 North seed Simmons were tied at 1-1 when the game was halted. The game is scheduled to resume tomorrow, May 3 at 4:30 p.m.
The first day of the Saint Joseph's Pod is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow with the hosts playing No. 5 North seed New England College with No. 2 South seed Mitchell and No. 3 South seed Johnson & Wales meeting in the late game.
Following Friday's action, the teams will return to their host sites on Saturday, May 4 for three games, two of which will be elimination contests. The two remaining teams will play in the Pod Finals on Sunday, May 5.
The winners of the two pods earn the right to compete in a best-of-three GNAC Softball Championship Series, which is schedule for Friday-Saturday, May 10-11. One game will be played on Friday with the second and "if necessary" game scheduled for Saturday.
The winner of the GNAC Softball Championship Series will be named the 2024 GNAC Softball Champion and earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2024 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
