GNAC Softball Report: Week 1

( FOR THE WEEK OF FEB. 25 - MARCH 3 )

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Maizie Lee, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Jr., 1B - Saco, Maine)

Lee went a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored in the team's 10-5 win over Bluffton on March 3. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Tori Gomes, Simmons (Sr., P - Taunton, Mass.)

In her only appearance of the week, the senior hurled a complete-game victory over 5-1 Randolph College on March 3, while allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in five innings of work at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, Fla. Opponents hit just .200 for the week. 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Bailey Rassol, Saint Joseph's (Me.) (Fr., C - Rehoboth, Mass.)

Rassol went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and scored the team's first run in a 10-5 win over Bluffton on March 3.


WEEK 1 HONOR ROLL
Grace Orcutt, Emmanuel (Fr., P/1B - Lexington, Mass.) - Opened her collegiate career with pinch hit single to break up a no-hitter against RPI and ended the day going 2-for-4 for a .500 average for Emmanuel during her college debut. She added an RBI against Misericordia, batting 1.000 with runners in scoring position.

Maddie Castigliego, Simmons (First Year, P - Bristol, R.I.) - In her only and first collegiate game vs. Randolph College on March 3 at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, Fla., the first year went 1-for-2 with a walk, run scored and three runs batted in and hit a three-run homer in her first collegiate plate appearance. She finished the week with a 2.667 OPS to rank among the nation's leaders.

Dom Ortiz, Simmons (Jr., 1B/3B - Lawrence, Mass.) - In two games, the senior knocked in three runs with a pair of doubles and handled all 20 chances at first base without an error. The infield standout currently owns a two-game hitting streak. Ortiz began the season by going 1-3 with a double vs. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) at Chain of Lakes Park in Titusville, FL on March 3 and followed that with a 1-3 effort, including a three-run double off the fence against Randolph College (5-1) in the same day.
