Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Report - Week 4

Player of the Week
Connie Grovo (Limington, Maine), Junior, Second Baseman, Saint Joseph's College (Maine)
Grovo was phenomenal in a 3-1 week for Saint Joseph's, hitting .733 (11-15) with five runs, a double and eight RBI over four conference contests. She notched a pair of 4-4 performances, including a four-hit effort with the game-winning, walk-off two-run single in a 3-2 triumph over Lasell College on Saturday. The Lasers' pitchers were unable to solve the junior second baseman, as Grovo went 6-7 with two runs and six RBI combined in the GNAC sweep.

Pitcher of the Week
Lauren Backhaus (Windsor, Conn.), Sophomore, Pitcher, Simmons College
Backhaus went 3-0 in the circle helping the Sharks to a 5-1 (3-1 GNAC) record for the week. She logged 19 innings of work, struck out 21 batters, allowed a mere .186 batting average against, and had an ERA of 1.11. The sophomore earned GNAC wins over University of Saint Joseph (CT) and Albertus Magnus, tossing a complete-game shutout over the Falcons in an 8-0 victory.

Rookie of the Week
Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.), Freshman, Shortstop, Emmanuel College
Davis hit safely in all six games on the week, helping the Saints to a 3-3 record including a sweep over former GNAC foe, Pine Manor. The rookie posted a total of 11 hits while hitting .500 at the plate with three extra base hits including a pair of home runs in back-to-back games. The shortstop did a little bit of everything for Emmanuel, scoring seven runs, collecting six RBI, stealing two bases, drawing two walks while slugging .818 on the week. Davis posted a season-best four hits on in a 9-0 victory over Pine Manor on March 30.
