Saint Joseph’s (Maine) Secures First GNAC Men’s Cross Country Title

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (Maine) secured its first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday (Nov. 4), recording as team score of 44 on its home course in the eight-kilometer race.

Leading the way for the Monks was sophomore Jacob Pelletier who crossed the finish line in 27:54. He was one four SJC student-athletes to earn All-Conference honors as one of the top-14 finishers in the championship race. Joining Pelletier on the First Team as a top seven finisher was Ryan Graham who placed sixth with a time of 28:57. Alexey Seredin and Nick Carmosino were both All-GNAC Second Teamers, placing eighth and 13th, respectively, with times of 30:04 and 30:50. Tyler Wright was the fifth scorer for the Monks, placing 16th at 30:55.

Norwich took second place in this year's championship with 55 points, led by Colby Makin, an All-GNAC First Teamer in fifth place who ran a 28:52. Alek Villavicencio also received First Team honors, placing seventh with a time of 29:23. Landon Pandolph was Norwich's only Second Team All-Conference honoree as he placed 11th at 30:39.

This year's third place finisher, Colby-Sawyer, got two top-five performances from Hayden Goyette and Jesse Gushee, who placed third and fourth, respectively. Goyette crossed the finish line in 28:11, while Gushee followed at 28:51. Martin Steucek's ninth place finish at 30:13, earned him Second Team All-Conference honors. As a team, the Chargers had 64 points.

Regis and Lasell placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in this year's championship race with each team represented on the All-GNAC Second Team. The Pride's featured runners were Benjamin Happenny and Zach Sigman, who finished 10th and 12th, while the Lasers were led by 14th-place finisher Wesley Thompson.

The final All-Conference representative from this year's championship was Braeden Laframboise from the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), which placed sixth in the team event.

Emmanuel and Dean were the final two teams to register a team score. The Saints were led by Nick Ware, while the Bulldogs fastest competitor was Colin Cleary.

Mitchell, New England College, and Rivier all had individual runners compete. Jonathan Hecker, Malik Keresey, and Cameron Ingram were their respective leaders.
