Lasell College Announces Hiring of James Martin as Cross Country Head Coach

NEWTON, MA- The Lasell College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of James Martin as the new Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach.   Coach Martin takes over the reins from eight year head coach Larry Sullivan, who stepped down from the position in March.

A graduate of Lasell College in 2003, Coach Martin has been working with the Lasers as an assistant coach for the past six years, during which time the program has grown leaps and bounds. Prior to that, Martin was a standout athlete and three-year captain on the Lasell College cross country team, finishing as the Lasers top runner in the majority of his races and placing 3rd in the 2001 NAC League Championships.  “I am excited for next season and what it will bring,” said Martin upon his hiring, “the team and I will be ready and looking forward to the challenge!”

Coach Martin currently works full time as a designer at the US Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility and is also an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track & field.  He is still actively competing within the Greater New England trail racing circuits, is the co-founder of a Boston area Trail Running Club, is a member of the USATF (certified Level 1), and is a member of the American Trail Running Association (ATRA).  Coach Martin’s next race endeavor will be taking part in the upcoming 2010 Grand Tree Trail Racing Series.

Coach Martin currently resides in Newton, Massachusetts with his wife, Jennifer.
